I thought this would be an amazing project for Christmas. I bought all the stuff required including the pre-cut batting. I have spent over 100 hours on this stupid project! After cutting all the fabric pieces out I carefully pinned and folded ALL of the hexagons and then painstakingly machine sewed all of them. Then I went to sew them together and I couldn't get sides to match up. A lot of the edges bowed, some of the edges were up to a 1/4 of an inch off. I couldn't complete one small table topper because of the mismatching sides. I unpicked every one of them, repressed, and began again. I was super careful and attentive as I went but still I had bowing issues and unmatching sides. I only did 25 of them before I realized I still couldn't make it work. So I had my husband make me a folding guide and I repressed and refolded another 25. I tried machine sewing a few of them and realized I still had the same issues with bowed edges and uneven lengths. So I ended up hand sewing 30 of them. Hand stitching fixed the bowing problem but I still could not fix the uneven length problem. I tried sewing a small table topper and could not make it look nice. So I unpicked them all again. Some of these hexagons have been sewn, unpicked, pressed, resewn, pressed, and unpicked up to 5 times. In the end I EPP a small table topper together just to get something done. I have spent $$$ and so many hours on this project. How Do You Get Your Folds Even?!?!?

Are your precut batting hexagons the right size, they may be a bit bigger than if you cut them yourself and this could be putting your edges out. - not sure, just a thought.
@WhiTiger
@WhiTiger 11 күн бұрын
@@sarahgodwin8122 They were the correct size. This project was done when they only offered one size of the batting and only one hexagon template. The precut batting was horrible! I finally figured out to measure the batting with the template. So many of the batting pieces were really skewed. Most were not symmetrical. Some were salvageable. Others were not. Just under half of the batting pieces I purchased were not usable. But I managed to cobble it together to make the 9 table toppers I was trying to make.

Love this idea for using hexigons. I have used the same technique for sewing square blocks together that were made out of a denim circle from old jeans with a 5" print square on the front and the arched part of the circle folded back over the denim on each side. This gives a cathedral window effect and makes a great picnic quilt. I've made 8 so far and the recipients were thrilled with them. I left the edges of the folded over denim raw so get a fun rag effect when washed. Thanks ladies for this great tutorial. I've added this to my to do list.

Love this because I’ve been working on a quilt using this method. So much fun and fast. I’m doing a larger size, put five smaller hexis on the plain top and match the back with the small hexis on the front. Small hexis are fuzzy cut. They are different themes. Flowers, sewing things, dogs, etc. I spend a lot of time in medical waiting rooms and hospital rooms with my son and these templates will make my next project super easy. Thanks again Jenny.

I live in Australia and have the pleasure of owning Nicola's quilt as you go hexagon. I love it. So far I have only made a beautiful table centre for my round table. I am an instant person so I did it by machine. It looks lovely and when people come into my kitchen they always say wow, your table looks very nice. I have an old jug with pothos growing in it, sitting in the middle hexie. I have lots of other plans for my hexie too. Some small eg., a needle keeper book and ideas for a quilt, a tote etc. Our imagine can be limitless and everyone thinks of something different to do with them. It's such fun. I loved what Jenny and the girls did with theirs.

Quilt pattern is really cute. Could also make cute "mug rugs" by making a few single single hexies. Thank You ladies :)
