Australia has been a republic since 1976. So the mistake is actually bigger than you think it is. Makes it worth more.

Wow! Very early in the piece, at a time when I knew almost nothing of our coinage, I found one of these 2001 one dollar coins in my change. It attracted my attention because it was exceedingly shiny and new - there was barely a mark on it. I put it in a drawer and forgot about it for years. One day, I picked it up again and looked a little more at it. In this I, purely by chance, noticed the rotation. I had no idea what this rotation meant - I simply thought it was unusual and put the coin back in the drawer. Years later I heard a little something of such rotations and decided to put it on eBay to see what transpired - I thought someone might buy it for $10.00. I was utterly stunned to find that someone actually bid $35.00 for it, so it passed to that person. Given what I know now, this video is now making me feel bad as I reckon, as a very near UNC coin, it would have provided the funds to purchase an exceptionally wonderful (expensive) bottle of red wine. Now, I'll go and weep into my cheap cask red.
