My biggest fear was not having all the equipment I needed to start a channel, and rn I still don't have all that I need to put a good video out there, but don't let that stop you, just start with what you have and invest in those things you need which you will get with time. And overall be consistent and patient. Thank you Jeven(and everyone) for this video, I know it's been a while this was uploaded but it's really still helpful and encouraging.

The key is to produce content you're passionate about and remain consistent, regardless of analytics. Thanks for the tips, Jeven! They were all very useful.
@quiznighthq
@quiznighthq 2 жыл бұрын
I think passion and consistency are very important but you do have to focus on analytics, too. I once saw a guy whose passion was reviewing comic strips. He was amazingly consistent, producing at least a couple of hundred videos ... and yet he was averaging about 20 views per video; it was actually pretty sad. I came across his channel because he was on a forum asking for tips on how to make his channel grow. Passion and consistency will only get you so far. You still need to produce quality content that appeals to viewers ... and that guy was failing.

About Thumbnails- I was taught in art school the most important part of book jacket design was not the cover, but the spine. Back in the day when we still went to bookstores, sometimes all you saw was the spine, as the books where lined up on the shelf. Depending on what that spine looked like determined whether or not you slide that book out to look through it. Building a thumbnail is much like this I think. In that it's a very small but important way to draw viewers in.
@MilkyWay-vr7ku
@MilkyWay-vr7ku 4 жыл бұрын
That's a very nice perspective on that..but im just curious what could be the spine of the thumbnail if there is..I would appreciate if you replied😊

Maybe you can help with an idea how to make thumbnails as a book spin.. I have very tiny channel.. 14 videos, I start to make the some thumbnails for my last 7 videos no make different.. I am wondering what’s wrong.. because it’s looks perfect to me 👌🏻
@einsteinx2
@einsteinx2 4 жыл бұрын
@@MilkyWay-vr7ku The point they're making is that the thumbnail is the spine ;) That is to say, it's a small area that you have to get people interested in your video. In this metaphor, there is no book cover, only the spine.
@brennanphillips7304
@brennanphillips7304 4 жыл бұрын
Ben Baron exactly. I was comparing the thumbnail to the spine of a book. It’s small. Needs to catch a watchers interest, just like a spine of a book does on a shelf, which is also small part to grab interest. You have a good thumbnail, you will have more interest.

I've dealt with judgment and rejection my entire life. So, when it came time to upload my videos, fear was not a factor. When you're at the bottom, you can only go up. I watched others' initial videos and saw the most basic content and it had hundreds of thousands of views. So, anything is possible.

It's one thing to make time to be a KZfaqr, doing 9 to 5, while being a good father to your son, but to also be a good husband to your son takes someone with only the best Sesame Street gear in town! 11:07 😉 "HIDDEN TIP", which was also the name to Dave's favorite game as a husband, make sure you "advertise your new podcast" within your intro 10:35 😉 I honestly can't wait for Dave's next podcast called "Golden Sho..." nevermind 😆 Although, I do think, on the whole, this title would strike gold! On scene, I would want Dave to be the Star 🌟 and definitely hope he decides to stream it 😉😆🚿

I wish I saw this video 2 years ago. The procrastination part hit home for me. I got a taste for video creation 6 years ago, but I am only now setting up my equipment and studio to finally publish my first video later this month. What fueled that procrastination was a huge case of imposter syndrome. I wanted to talk about the thing I love, Architecture. But I am yet a registered architect. I overcame that mentality when I realized, hey, whether I’m registered or not I still have a passion for it. So I’m launching on the things that I’m currently passionate about, architecture, design, branding and real estate. Nov 2021 is my month. Thanks for the video, and thanks for helping future KZfaqrs.

Jeven I didn't watch the whole video not because it wasnt intresting, its what i need to hear however i'm not sure that if i stay to watch the whole video that'll answer my question. So if you can answer my question, here is my situation. I started my new youtube about 4 months ago. Mainly i post mashup videos consiting of anime, games, cartoons, parodies. In a sense it is a variety channel however they are all done in a similar matter. I see myself doing this for years in the future but my problem is copyright. I never got copyright claims or stikes for clips on my videos, but with songs its like when dont i get them. Starting out i went from making videos and using any song i wanted to now when i post its like every single song i use is claimed for copyright. I dont know what to do, ive looked at other videos and to no avail. When i hear music im lead to make videos, so its not something i want to let go. I want new subscribers but I just want to know if its even possible to use songs that arent from me in my videos without copyright claims, and if its possible to be able to montize them. If you can help me it would be greately appreciated. Thank you for your time

Hello Jeven. After Dunna's video I get an idea, why I get a little discomfort watching this video (this is the first time I watch you video or channel). You are sitting TOO CLOSE to camera and use wide angle lens. WAAAAY TOO CLOSE! I feel really not conformable this close, especially when you are watching to a lens (or another way of telling this - you are watching very close to viewer). Feels like you are sitting in real life as close as half of hand length (25cm or 10 inch from eyes). I think that usually in real life you would not seat that close to another person, would you? So, I am at 7:56 m:s of this video and REALLY struggles to watch it (even if it is good). Thing about it, try to feel it by yourself, because I have a feeling that you are screaming at be - that is how close you are sitting =) Maybe it ok on a smartphone (but I do not think so), but at monitor, tv set or even digital projection (which I am using and angular field of view of my 100 inch screen is close to iphone 7 plus screen at about 15cm or 6 inch from an eye), but at standard PC monitor it looks not great as well.

Because this was so helpful) is that I would love love love to see you feature more POC creators and even women creators. As a POC woman myself, I love to hear that perspective when sourcing knowledge from these big panels and it will also help broaden your own scope because who you network with and connect with will impart their lived experience and knowledge onto you, which I think will make you a more holistic creator (even within your niche). Thank you ❤️

What Dave Maze said REALLY resonated with me! Both saying "no" to other obligations and trying to connect other creators on the platform. I will definitely have to work on these... amongst other things. I guess the most important thing is to just start and learn along the way. Stop worrying about failure because it is kinda inevitable, the point is to keep your mind open for the lessons you learn from them and listen to others' suggestions (if it's constructive advice). Eventually, we will get there :) Thanks for the brilliant video, it is such a great summary!

One big mistake I did was trying to churn out as much content as possible. The stress eventually made me lose all interest in the process and it's taken me almost 2 years to regain the passion for making videos again. Just like what was mentioned in the video, it's not a sprint, you need to think long-term. Another thing, especially for me as a "projects channel" is that I've been sloppy with documenting the process. It's much better to have a bit too much media to sort through when editing than too little.

Thanks, Jeven for compiling such a great collection of people together for such a comprehensive and inspiring video! Really appreciated so many of the great tips about focus, overcoming fear and creating schedules that are actually flexible, not set in stone. As a somewhat newer KZfaq account, we are constantly reminded about how KZfaq is hard and it is a marathon, not a sprint. Also, it great to be reminded to focus on making better videos rather than obsessing over how many or how little views we received.

This was a great video. You all had some great lesson's. It was what Josh said that resonated the most with me, I've had projects that have been way to ambitious, wasted hundreds of hours, and many of them still float in a void, waiting for hundreds of hours more (at least) to complete. So that balance between what's realistic, and what's not, and understanding that with time, bigger projects will become easier, but first getting smaller projects done first, builds a lot of practice.

When I started producing KZfaq content on my other channel, I was all over the place. I would do videos on traveling, book writing, lifting weights, and family life. I had NO clear path at ALL!!!! Even though I had all these niches, it was a challenge to think of a video to create. Now, I just focus on traveling and sharing my unique views, advice, and stories to help other passionate travelers on my second channel. It's refreshing to hear from successful KZfaqrs about the mistakes they made. It adds to my motivation to make this work and see this through. Thank you for this video!!!! This was INCDREDIBLY helpful. My biggest takeaway is that you cannot procrastinate due to fear. I've been wanting to dive in and create a channel for 6ish months now, but the only reason I haven't has been fear. What if I'm terrible at it? What if people make fun of me? It was both reassuring and surprising that this is a common MISTAKE. I want to do it because it's fun and I the want to create keeps growing. Doing it because I want to have fun and not because I'm pressuring myself to make tons of money needs to always be at the forefront. Thank youuu!!!

Thanks for the tips, I just started a few days ago after so many people telling me that I should write a book and I found out a lot so far. My 12 year old computer can't handle this. It took me 12 hours after putting my clips into a video for my computer to process it, then it took another 12 hours for my computer to upload the video to KZfaq. The editing is a nightmare also, I don't really know what I'm using but it just doesn't do the stuff I need and neither does the editing on KZfaq. The lack of easy, cheap editing software has brought me to a screeching halt for the moment. After I find some good software I guess my next videos will be about upgrading my computer. Thanks for all the tips on here. See you in the ether.

I find that you will go nuts watching the analytics which can influence the content. I agree to be yourself and develop your own style is so important. I don't know how many times I've been down the road thinking and saying so and so does this. Perhaps I should try this. It has merit, but people watch for your content and how you deliver it. Great video by the way. It hit home in many parts.

definitely, I've been guilty of that! Personally, these guys got some good ideas but at the same time when youtube started out it was more or less a lot of "Raw" video, and now it seems like everything is geared towards almost Cinema quality videos you need to post well not really "Need to" but that's the way it's heading, My thoughts on that are 50/50 ok ya "times Change" I get it! but what you said is correct people need to be themselves and try not to overthink and overstress this kinda stuff I suppose! my channel is what it is I'm not trying to overdo anything pretty practical and normal I try and keep it that way, there are some things I could take it up a notch on but just all takes time.

@@Canadiancarguy1987 **now it seems like everything is geared towards almost Cinema quality videos** Agree! My hope is that there is still a segment of KZfaq viewers who like old-school KZfaq. That is, raw, authentic, DIY, filmed-at-home videos. These are the videos that feel more like you're hanging out with a friend at their place just having a chat. The people who want super slick, high-level production shows have HBO and Netflix to watch. At least some of the KZfaq audience is looking for deeper connection with relatable content that feels like real everyday life. Wishing you & your channel the best!

This is really helpful , my girlfriend and I just started a channel and I swear we just watch and look for views like they should be there after one video. So it’s good to know that KZfaqrs have the same fears us new youtubers do. Keep pushing new youtubers we’ll get there

I have been trying to create some KZfaq videos many years ago. But was scared, now feeling more relief.

I've just started after regaining my confidence to do it. I had an old account and things happened and then I stopped, I really wish I hadn't stopped, but I'm grateful that I'm back. I'll just enjoy the awesome process thanks to videos like this one.
