I grew up playing Texas blues, funk and soul and am a groove oriented drummer. My favorite drummer is Bernard Purdie and favorite groove is the half time shuffle which (depending on how it’s played) can be a very busy groove. Then there’s Steve Gadd… his grooves often take the opposite approach. He will use the space created by NOT hitting a drum or cymbal to accentuate a groove. Outstanding musician and an American treasure. As are all of these musicians. How awesome would it be to play with Grover! I am blessed to have been born in 70. Great video.

I was in Hampton VA in 1990 interviewing potential Colleges for my daughter to attend. I heard on the radio that he was in town. Rushed over got tickets, was near the front of the line when the doors opened and got an aisle seat 4 rows from the stage. He came off stage when he played this song and I could have touched him when he came down the aisle. Ranks up there as one of the BEST concerts I have attended. R.I.P.

A most enjoyable experience with the Master. How I thank the Lord for KZfaq. It keeps Grover alive in visual and audible as well as spiritual. By the way, Eric Gales playing here is top notch too. What a cool cat.

@ Don't sleep on McDonald. This man has created several well known household songs. Gadd is a master though. He and Jeff Porcaro were the two best drummers around this time in my opinion.

I had the privilege of seeing Grover in Hanford, Ca. in the middle 90's. It was a soaring, beautiful, wonderful show!! Mister Magic, with Grover prancing up and down the outdoor aisles, it was magnificent. And like many others, I was introduced to Grover Washington by a college friend when this album came out, which led to my continued enjoyment of smooth/contemporary jazz ever since. RIP GWjr.

This is a really difficult for me as I love the original album track and Grover generally, but man Eric is really off on this live version. His time and phrasing is inconsistent, and certain runs just seem to die mid flow. I’m not hating on Eric, I own his solo albums, but this performance just grated for me. Btw my favourite version of Mr M is on Live at the Bijou, in fact that whole album is a high watermark for Grover.

A lot of respect to the late Eric Gale on guitars 👍👍👍👍👍. Didn’t get the recognition that he deserved for being the awesome guitarist that he was . His stint with his group ‘Stuff’ and his solo albums are still full of his skilled playing . Long live his sound , his music ,his talent. He needs to be honored.
