When I was six or seven, I was a little obsessed with that trolley. I used to draw pictures of it; I loved shaping the silhouettes of the benches. And long before that, I'd get excited every time the piano started up and the trolley emerged from the tunnel. An essential part of this quality children's program!

The whole show had an intense jazz vibe. Look up Johnny Costa whenever you get a chance. He was the pianist for the show. Every single episode, he played the intro and closing music live on the piano and every time, he played it slightly different.

Trolley still has the bell but its whistle is gone. And now the whole series takes place in the neighborhood of make believe. Hey Daniel Tiger is a great host. And I love Katerina Kittycat. She's adorable.
@DefendYoungstown Жыл бұрын
First time I saw that "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood" show (quite by accident, but that's a whole different story), I got hit with nostalgia super hard. "Okay, he has the little sweater on! What? He's taking his shoes off while singing "Great Feeling"?! Holy crap! Then, I looked up the story/documentary/making of about it, and one of the first things they said was: "We asked ourselves; how can we honor Fred's memory?" Like, imagine having that much of an impact on so many childhoods over the decades that a collective of creatives make a cartoon that continues your work postmortem, with the primary tenet of asking yourself if any decision you make regarding the show is what Mr. Rogers would've done? Are you being the best you he knew you could be... and then taking that and passing it on? That's beautiful. He left a legacy that's bigger than us all.

What episode is this from??? I never remember it lasting this long. Unless it's just multiple clips stitched together. And what is that sound at 0:27?
@robertholt3996 Жыл бұрын
Just figured it out. Episode 1537. It's two clips spliced together. When trolley arrives and when trolley leaves. And the weird sound is actually the goat, lol. I never saw any episodes with the goat as a child (at least not that I remember, I was like 6 at the latest), so I had no clue.

I think Trolley's theme would be ideal for Toby the Tram engine on Thomas & Friends.
@WesternOhioInterurbanHistory3 жыл бұрын
Toby moves really slow though and it kinda sounds like traction motors and air pumps
@lizsmith81362 жыл бұрын
Headcanon: Trolley is Toby's make-believe American cousin whose "controller" is King Friday XIII. Toby chooses to never mention him or the Neighborhood of Make-Believe to the other engines out of fear of being ridiculed. Only Thomas and Percy know of Trolley's "existence" because of their close friendship with Toby. Too bad a canonical crossover will never happen, though.
