I saw Mr Pass play this song in Hollywood in the late '80's. 25 people in the place and he was magical. Chatted a bit with him and the club owner, Mr. Pass was really nice. His play and his style truly Inspires and Amazes me.

What i love most is how it seems like he has an entire band backing him up. His melody and rhythm makes your minds fill in the blanks where the other instruments should be.

Just what can you say about Joe Pass that has not been said before? The best ever, bar none. Complete master of the instrument and a gentleman to boot! Saw him many times in NYC (70's early 80's) solo and with Oscar Peterson and Niels Orsted Henning Petersen on their "Chops" tour. RIP Joe and thanks for the memories, you left us to soon.

More than a jazz guitar player, a concertist. He took classical guitar right hand techniques, mixed with a sublime sense of rythm and improvisation, and played all that jazz repertoir as nobody else that I may have seen.

The finest jazz guitarist ever to grace our ears............and he has the treble up on his amp. Why, oh why do many "jazz" players think jazz guitar tone is supposed to be muddy?
@rabokarabekian4094 жыл бұрын
Try playing a piece in this style with treble turned way up. Overtones get troublesome. It's kinda like asking why is great Cabernet is overloaded with dark flavors.

para mí, Joe Pass es el mejor guitarrista de la historia... su música e interpretación es, sencillamente, sublime...
I had the pleasure of sitting in with him back around 1982 as he guested at a music school. I was a rock drummer, doing my best to play jazz brushes. Made it through two songs without making Joe sound bad lol

None of us are worthy to comment. Joe was the chess player of jazz guitar players. He went so deep into the instrument that the rest of us, no matter how good we are, just kind of have to step back and allow the room to clear the air for such playing.
@caminosdeljaguar44286 жыл бұрын
Take is easy... The reach of musicality is sought after with the intention of opening the heart and soul towards a deeper meaning of connection and humanity. No need for subservient praise. We are all equally as limitless in our own right.
@musiccampwithlumpyandlisa90256 жыл бұрын
Geez you self confidence losers. Just sell your guitar if you're that intimidated by another player. You could always PRACTICE and then you too could play scales over chords. It takes work. You willing to work? Thanks - Lumpy

What an amazing contrast of comping in time, soloing "out" [relatively] harmonically, and implying a tight rhythmic swing groove over a standard ballad in such a short time -- barely 3:30 minutes including audience reaction -- unaccompanied. Ahh, Joe. Man! And what an strange irony. How youtube brings both the past as well as the future, AND WHAT IS ACROSS THE WORLD, in any language, to what is in essence the XXI century's woodshed: your COMPUTER. Sheet music; tabs; lessons, inspiration

People who don't have a clue will say this guy's better or that guy's better ya da ya da... but if you ask even the most accomplished Jazz guitarists today about Joe Pass they will all tell you that he's a once in an eternity guitarist meaning his understanding and feel for what he was playing was beyond belief. He just knew exactly what notes or combination of notes to play without even thinking about it. Calling someone "the greatest ever" is subjective to opinion but IMO, there's Joe and ?.

While in the military a former student of Andres Segovia taught me a minuet where I was playing bass,rythm and lead at once. Something I never thought I could do. It surprised me just how easy it was after watching the technique. The minuet was later done by a pop group "Lover's Concerto" by The Toys
