Excellent shots. I haven't had much joy with stacking, so I'm wondering if you have time to answer a few questions: 1) How do you manage to get large stacks with the SB-900 without dark frames and/or inconsistent exposures? (I use the same flash with Nikon Z50 and can't get more than three or four shots - even at only three frames per second - before the flash power becomes unreliable. Even worse with a Godox TT350 and V350). I'm guessing it may have something to do with your choice of ISO and aperture settings. 2) How do you process the stacks? In- camera, Photoshop or dedicated software like Zerene? 3) How much manual touch-up work is required after the initial automated stack? 4) Why do you use relatively large stacks for small subjects like the weevil? In any case, whatever your techniques, the results are very impressive! 🙂

Hi, great video as always! Watching your videos.. I don't think it could be done any better. It's amazing. When focus stacking an insect do you calculate the number of frames and steps in your camera settings every time? And how the hack is focus stacking possible whith the Laowa Macro lens? It's manuel only. I don't get it 🤔

Hi Alexis, really been enjoying your videos and I had a question regarding continuous flash settings. The stacks in this video are mostly 40~50 shots. What flash power and at what FPS are you shooting? I've just picked up a used Godox V860 III. I've seen 1/16th power recommended quite a few times, though that only gets me 11 to 17 shots at either 10 or 7fps before it misses frames. Shooting down at 1/32 +0.5 power and I've been able to get over 200+ shots without the flash missing at 10fps. I was curious as to what power and FPS you use and do you just create the stack slower that you've got enough overlapping shots if the flash doesn't recycle quick enough for every shot? Cheers, keep up the great content!

Great video, very informative.I use a Fujifilm xt4 and I'm curious to know how to do handheld focus stack with flash where each image taken in the stack is lit with flash. I tried using burst mode and flash in manual mode at 1/128 but even with the lowest power it didn't recycle fast enough. I tried multi on the flash but not all frames were lit. Please help as i see you are using Fujifilm as well and I see your flash fires multiple times in your handheld stack...can you elaborate on the flash & camera settings you use to have the flash fire multiple times with each frame being lit. Thanks in advance.

It takes some practice but if you're able to keep steady enough it's not too difficult. Using a flash helps a lot too as it freezes any small movements like camera shake.

The flash is so much brighter than the continuous light that it doesn't really affect the final image, it just helps with focusing when it's dark.

Im not against using focus stacking but de majority of people dont have this equipment for macro cuz its expensive. Maybe showing how to make macro with a simple camera and a simple macro lens could be more interesting. The majority of people that wants to start in macrophotography doesnt have this equipment or the level to use it.

Expensive gear absolutely isn't required for my way of shooting, I focus stack manually which is possible with basically any camera and macro lens setup. The main difference is the fast burst shooting and higher resolution sensor, what's much more important is a flash and a good diffuser. But I'd definitely like to do a video using really cheap gear as well, just to show it more clearly.
