The song is actually a poem written by J.R.R Tolkien from The Lord of the Rings. It has been put to music and released by several artists, but this one is by far the best I personally have heard to date. Peace.
@mastermanio2
@mastermanio2 3 жыл бұрын
It's from The Hobbit, sung in the first couple of chapters. Not sure where you'd get the idea that a song about the lonely mountain, Smaug, and the "forgotten gold" of the dwarves, was somehow about LotR.. but yea. its in the first like 100 or so pages of the hobbit along with about a dozen other songs. I know that for a fact, because I remember it listing the musical arrangement that the dwarves had, and it is specifically mentioned as "awakening something Tookish within Bilbo" Which is an allusion to the fact that this song was what caused Bilbo to join the party. MOST of the songs in LoTR were in the two towers. you might be thinking of Durin's song, which is very similar thematically and was covered in LotR, in FoTR. Gimli sung it to the fellowship as they passed through Moria. But "Far over the misty mountains cold" was not sung in LotR, at any point in any of the books. EDIT: also, this arrangement was taken directly from the New Line Cinema Hobbit films. They're covering the version from the movie, but they're actually singing the whole thing, the movie version only covered the first two verses. At the point in this song where it cuts to the higher-pitched vocalist, they're composing new material. All of the baritone stuff, the arrangement, intonation, melody, rhythm.. it's all taken directly from the first hobbit movie. And idk about you, this guy might be an amazing vocalist, but I personally prefer a choir of baritones. The movie nailed it. It can't be done better. That said, for two solo performers, this is likely the best adaptation that I've seen

You were right. In the scene with 3 men together, they are ALL Peter. He does a LOT of layering his voice to sound like different singers when he isn't working with others. But he does team with individuals and groups. One collab is Peter and all of Home Free singing Amazing Grace.

Now, as I understand it, (and I could be misinformed or just misunderstanding), 2 men laid down over 120 layers, (tracks), singing and harmonizing with themselves and each other and did it while being half a world away from each other! Peter Hollens is an audio wizard with an amazing voice! Tim Foust, well, if you've ever listened to Home Free you know him as the deep throated baritone/bass/tenor...hell, the man has a 5 octave range! Amazing. The vocal skills alone are miraculous. Thanks for reviewing this, Most excellent indeed! PEACE!!!!!

Peter is a tremendously talented often solo a Capellist who achieves what he does by layering many tracks, sometimes as many as 120 or more. This song was just the two of them and many layered tracks and is from the movie "The Hobbit" from the "Lord of the Rings" series. Tim is the bass from the a Capella group Home Free and is also insanely talented. Both Peter and Home Free have an extensive body of work. Home Free does a lot of country but also other genres. I am sure that you will get many suggestions as to what to watch next from other commenters.

This is a cover. Peter has about a dozen songs from the Hobbit / Lord of the Rings movies on his channel. He has put about 200 covers and a few originals on his channel. He has done several songs with Tim, several with Home Free, a couple with Avi Kaplan, several with Lindsey Stirling, and many with his wife. He pulled a group called "On the Rocks" together to compete in NBC's The Sing Off in season 2 (Pentatonix competed season 3; Home Free, Voiceplay competed season 4.)

Ok, revealing my inner fangirl here. This is a poem by JRR Tolkein that was put to music for the second Hobbit movie, Desolation of Smaug. It is about the Dwarves leaving the Mountain as the Dragon is attacking which begins the cause for the entire journey of The Hobbit, killing the dragon and recapturing the Mountain for the Dwarves.. These two men are amazing and definitely do the song justice.

The primary fame of Peter Hollins is his au capella layered music. He multi-tracs himself singing as many as 7 or 8 harmonic octaves and splices them together into one piece. Lately he's been having guest singers, like this one. There are 3 parts sung by Peter and 3 sung by Tim. He's also done some with the whole Home Free group.

It’s from the movie the Hobbit. They both look like they could star in it. Peter is a master of layering voices so it’s just Peter and Tim singing in this which is amazing. Peter Hollens is an “a cappellla” singer who collaborates with many singers. He’s collaborated with Tim in other songs: Sound of Silence, Bridge over Troubled Water, Greensleeves, Fire and Rain. Tim Foust is the bass in the “a cappella” group Home Free. And Peter has collaborated with Home Free in 2 songs, Amazing Grace and I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. Peter has at least a 4 octave range maybe more and Tim has at least a 5 octave range. They are both tremendous singers. Good reaction!

Peter is famous for layering his voice. Peter does an excellent version of I See Fire (Cover of Ed Sheeran's song from the 2nd Hobbit movie). He really ups his game in this, in doing all the vocal parts. Misty Mountains is a song form the first Hobbit movie Peter Hollens is fantastic. He does Amazing Grace with Home Free. His Loch Loman is very good and haunting. Bridge Over Troubled Water (with Tim Foust). Peter has been doing a cappella for a while now and is very good at what he does. He has also partnered with Avi Kaplan (bass from Pentatonix). In fact, he has partnered with many different a cappella artists.

Tim Foust- Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkle) Peter Hollens- Into the West (Another Hobbit/ JRR Tolkien inspired track) Tim is the bass singer for the acapella group Home Free, so literally anything by them. Amazing group all around, especially loved their cover of End of the Road. Another great bass is Geoff Castellucci, who is both a solo artist and the bass for Voice Play. Big ones by him recently are Geoff Catellucci- 16 Tons (Tennessee Ernie Ford cover) Geoff Castellucci- Blackbird (Beatles cover) Geoff Castellucci- Bare Necessities (Disney cover)

This song comes from the movie "The Hobbit". It was sung by the dwarves about losing their home. To her another fun medley from "The Hobbit", check out "The Hobbit Drinking Medley" by Peter Hollens and Hank Green. Peter Hollens is amazing. He often collaborates with other artists but does his own stuff too. My personal favorites from Peter Hollens are "Shenandoah" (from the movie "Shenandoah") and the medley from "Les Miserables" (which he does with his wife). Tim Foust, the bass here, sings with the group Home Free. Anything from Home Free is fantastic, but my favorites include "How Great Thou Art", "Sea Shanty Medley", "Blue Ain't Your Color", and "When a Man Loves a Woman". To see Tim featured in Home Free music, check out "Folsom Prison Blues" and the "Butts Medley" or "My Church". Home Free is amazing.

Peter Hollens is someone else to check out, as you noted from this vid. He not only has a beautiful voice and a spectacular musical sense, but he has really mastered the layering of his own voice (and others) to make something almost beyond belief. He has a number of videos with just himself blending a dozen, many dozen, even a hundred (I think at least once) lines, sometimes with all of his layers on the screen at the same time, in little boxes. :-) He has done collaborations with Home Free, Lindsey Sterling, Tim Foust, Avi Kaplan, and Maluka, all of them worth a listen. If you want a good one of his to start your reactions with, let me suggest "I See Fire" (The Hobbit). He is alone in this one, and it is one of his earlier ones--2013--and the first of his that I ever found. "Misty Mountains" was also from The Hobbit soundtrack.

Twenty one pilots is a band to check out. Car Radio, Heavy dirty soul, or Guns for Hands are good starting points.
