Another third-party lens for Medium Format cameras, at a fairly affordable price - can it possibly be any good?

Are we sure this isn’t secretly a zoom lens with that FOCUS BREATHING 😂

I appreciate the real life example during the test chart example. People tend to forget that the test charts are torture tests that can make almost any lens look bad. It’s all about how it handles in real life
@StymyParsley
@StymyParsley Ай бұрын
Yeah sometimes the chromatic aberration looks terrible on the chart but in real world scenarios for things like portraits you’d just never have problems with it. Not great for architectural shots though lol and things like that

I suppose it's lucky most people don't use the GFX cameras for video, because that focus breathing is something else.

The camera might not be a very good for video, but in this case it's the lens that's at fault, not the camera.

Would be nice Christopher if you could do a quick test video of some EF lenses adapted to the GFX. Many of them cover the whole MF sensor despites being FF dslr and seems to work well. For exemple would the 50 and 85 Sigma f1.4 Art work better than these GFX Mitakon ?

Should be advertised as 50-85 f1.4 zoom

With that corner sharpness they should just make it a full frame lens instead, and it could be pretty good.

Wonder why some of the gear snobs are so critical of this lens. It seems to have great character even if it's not perfect. The color and bokeh really looks quite nice. People would really buy more expensive gear that has less focus breathing rather than get a budget friendly option that will produce more special images?

The GFX system isn't exactly light on the wallet, so most people who have it like to dunk on low end products.
@ralphsaad8637
@ralphsaad8637 Ай бұрын
@thephotoyak since many GFX cameras are now available for just 5k, which is dirt cheap compared to most medium format cameras, so it is in itself a "budget" medium format option. So the lens is still in my view a good match for the camera.

A good clue to whether or not a lens manufacturer knows what they're doing is if they make metallic lens hoods. If you drop a camera on the lens, you want the hood to absorb the impact and break like a plastic one. If the hood is metal the vibrations will propagate into the next most fragile material, which is all the glass in the lens.
@ChrisM-yq2pq
@ChrisM-yq2pq Ай бұрын
Not every test or things that break lenses is from dropping. Honestly how often have you dropped a camera with lens. It’s more than a decade for me. I shoot thousands of people per year. Doing event photography plus other shoots I’m always on the go. Most important thing is for lenses to last day to day type of shooting.

Nice review. I'm guessing that manual focusing with a GFX 50sii would still allow the focus peaking to work? Yes - no? Thanks again, Don Bergeron

The slightly stiff focusing is a bit disappointing. I use lots of manual lenses and it’s frustrating when a focus ring isn’t gliding smoothly when I try to make small adjustments.

Look at the serial numbers. It look like this lens was a very early handmade preseries, actualy the nineteen lens made! When full production lenses will be available, i think the focus will be smoother and the optical performance better?

Hey Mr Frost, what phone do you use, do you carry a camera when you hangout? Do you think the 2X macro on the Sony Xperia 1 VI is neccessary? Macro seem like not much variation you can do from each other, and if I want to take macro for education purposes, I can just google it isn't it? Will you recommend me to wait for iPhone 16 Pro which going to have a warm tone all the time but I did prefer iOS and also more quality third party apps maybe, but Xperia I can have natural looking image quality right out of the box plus 2X macro, no hole screen and 3.5mm jack and microSD card slot

I have Mitakon 65mm/1.4, and it's quite yellow if you use any fixed white balance. I noticed this when I was testing it with some other adapted lenses under the same WB setting. I am wondering if this 80mm/1.6 has the same issue.
