People do like Anko in the US, but they don’t know it’s “Anko” or many do not even know it’s red beans! Most just eat it in their mochi and love the flavor- when you say it’s red beans, it’s hard for them to understand lol. Red beans are eaten a lot here in many foods, but always savory ones.
@jadelynelle2184 жыл бұрын
And usually I don't hear "anko" we just say "adzuki bean"
@Mojojojo857573 жыл бұрын
I didn’t see any red bean in the dango she made 🤔 although it is a common flavor for dango and other Japanese sweets, this was just a plain dango with soy sauce glaze i believe. Fun fact: the chocolate flavor comes from the cocoa bean! So we do use beans in many deserts. There is also the bean pie 🥧 made with great northern or navy beans cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. so delicious! It is a southern desert in the US. It is true we have many varieties and colors of beans but azuki beans are not used in any traditional American dishes. We use varieties of red bean such as the kidney bean in most dishes. I do love the flavor and subtle sweetness of azuki in desserts 😍 I hope it becomes increasingly popular in the US because it would certainly agree with many American pallets even if they don’t know what it is!
