I don't see many guys getting a deal north of Dbosses deal. Steve is trying to build a balanced roster. If Marner actually wants to win he will sign a deal that makes sense for a team to build with, not around.

Zero chance Yzerman trades for Marner. They still need to give extensions to Seider and Raymond. Resigning Kane would be a better idea because he's a proven winner while Marner is a proven loser.

The thought of Marner is tempting, however, the Wings already have DeBrincat and Raymond and have more playmaking wingers in the system. So I'd rather see a big trade for a high end center if Stevie Y is gonna swing for the fences!

This feels like a big stretch, but not completely impossible. I just don't see Yzerman giving up what the Leafs would want. He might be able to structure a slightly more team friendly extension, but the cost would be very high. It would likely take a 1st rounder, Kasper and/ or Berggren plus a roster player like Fabbri.

I think all the bad press is just fuel to make a move work. Marner going 1:1 would require alot from their trade partner. I think torontos media is doing what it does best, drive their fan base nuts.

As much as i would like to see him in Detroit. I just don't see Toronto trading him to a future rival. Also, what would we give up? Seider is off limits, Raymond should be off limits. I could see a package involving Kasper and a couple other players. But i dont see Toronto giving up a star player for the guys i mentioned.

Here is why it makes sense Detroit does not have the consent 90+ point producer. Raymond could get there but hasn’t yet. Your now not drafting high enough to get one and not to many players of that magnitude makes it to free agency. But it’s it going to cost you easily looking at least a first- Kasper, and berggren or Johansson maybe even another draft pick.

The issue is the cost on 2 fronts. One, you have the cost of the trade.. which won't be cheap. Two, you have the cost of re-signing him.. which also won't be cheap. So its the cost of getting him plus the cost of keeping him. That total is probably going to be too much for it to make sense. However, when Larkin and Marner were fantastic together during the ASG a few years back.

@@user-ed6nt1ml6p No, I didn't miss anything. The points I brought up are valid, Marners "lack of playoff performance" is not. Over the last 4 years, Marner has 29Pts in 32 playoff games. For the math nerds out there, that's 3 points shy of being a point-per-game playoff producer. In what world is that bad? I understand, he had a rough series against Boston, but don't let recency bias cloud your assessment of a player.

@@edenisburning please do some efforts to understand man I never said he cant produce points in the PO I said that he's not a GAME CHANGER neither a GAME BREAKER in the Playoffs that's mainly why the Leafs struggled so hard since the begining of the Marner, Matthews etc era .. Look the difference between him and Draisaitl, McDavid,MacKinnon, Kucherov,Stammer and so on all have game changing and Game breaking abilities but that's just not Marner's case anyway

@@user-ed6nt1ml6p That's just not true. My biggest complaint with Marner would be his defense. The guy is a Selke caliber forward in the regular season, and a liability in the playoffs. Mitch needs to get that figured out, but a change of scenery could help. I'm a Wings fan and still think Marner gets scapegoated. If you really look at the numbers, it's Tavares who's making the core 4 look so bad. Also, I wouldn't judge anyone's playoff prowess based on their time with Toronto. Don't believe me? Go ask Phil Kessel.

Funny how everyone seems for forget Marner has a full no move clause, even the article says "if the Leafs choose to move him this summer." If he doesn't want to leave, the Leafs are POWERLESS to do so. Marner could play another season and go wherever he wants a year from now.

Marner seems more like an $8 million per year player. I don’t see him as a fit with his current contract/ future demands. If the Leafs retained $3 million next season, that frees up $7 mill for them to upgrade in other areas. So if Detroit were to come back with two prospects and a pick (or vice versa), I could see this happening. Now if Detroit included a sign and trade for Perron (played for Berube), then Detroit might give up one prospect and a pick.

I know im in the minority, but i think it makes sense, and i like the idea. I wouldn't look at it as hamstringing Detroit, because they dont have anyone making 10 mil plus, Toronto has 4. All championship caliber teams for the most part have atleast 1 star making big money, teams can work with that, they cant work 4 players taking up half the cap. As far as playoff performance, thats not a concern because Detroit isnt a playoff team. We'll cross that bridge when we get there, and marner would certainly help getting there. Lastly, detroit has had no lottery luck, unable to draft a franchise type player, yzerman has stated on numerous occasions its his job to now find game breakers a different way. Detroit doesnt have a true elite center, and the future depth chart at the position are solid but unlikely to be stars ( danielson and kasper ) This formula can be successful, with high end wingers. Having defensively responsible, 200 ft centers that you can trust in all zones, but are not high end producers can be off set by great point producing wingers. Larkin, kasper, danielson down the middle, razor, debrincat and marner as 75% of your top 6 wingers. Couple holes to fill but thats a nice top 9 taking shape. Detroit has a few contracts off the books next year, and i believe a few players will be moved this offseason to free up cap space. The cost to aquire marner wont be cheap, but i also believe it will be more palatable than people think.

Reading these comments it’s obvious you guys don’t understand trade value. For the Wings to trade for Marner Toronto would have to take on some of his contract. Everyone is going to be surprised when Toronto gets virtually nothing back in return but salary cap relief.

As a Leafs fan there is nothing in Detroit, in their farm system or draft picks that would interest me at the expense of Marner. Raymond might be better defensively? Mitch is solid defensively.

You can hear the disdain for our Wings in that message. It’s all good, I was born in Hamilton and as a Wings fan, I will forever hate the Toronto Maple Leafs. All major analysts rank our prospect pool as one of the best, so I doubt the Leafs’ front office would agree with your take. The reality is your team has all but run out of its chances to end a brutal drought while having returned to top hockey, and with every playoff elimination that rears its ugly face, that slide back down to reality inches closer for them. Meantime, the Wings are trending upward. There’s plenty the Leafs should want from the Wings.

Bet Shanny’s foaming at the mouth for a Marco Kasper the way you guys get bounced around come playoffs. Remember when the Leafs were a tough team in the ‘90s? Marner solid defensively? Did you watch the goal that eliminated you? Literally a massive defensive lapse from Marner. lol You guys would be lucky to make a deal with us, and Yzerman isn’t stupid so he wouldn’t bother anyway.
