Mitsuba V2003 fake "Panasonic" camcorder

I've seen plenty of fake camcorders, but at least they record video. This one doesn't. The Mitsuba V2003 is a 35mm film still camera and audio cassette player designed to look like a real camcorder from the late '90s. It does play audio from the cassette, but it neither records nor plays back video of any kind.
That would just be a funny little toy if unscrupulous sellers didn't put fake brand names on these (I've seen "Panasonic" and "Sony" so far) and tried to sell them as real camcorders, to unsuspecting buyers who probably didn't know anything about camcorders but thought they were getting a bargain.
Hopefully the days of that are over because Mitsuba no longer makes this model, and besides, more and more people are familiar with how a video camera actually operates, and would expect one to be much smaller and lighter than this. But yet the leftovers of this past fraud still remain on places on eBay.

This absolutely takes the cake for the worst fake "camera" I have ever seen. This is so terrible, it hurts my soul just seeing that they tried to pass this ridiculous piece of crap as real.

This is what I always wanted! A still camera and a tape player all in one! LOL WOW what a fantastic product :) This is about as useful as those pens with a small clock built in that were always dried out by the time you bought it.

Matsushita owns the trade-names "Panasonic" and "Technics", which basically replaced the "National" brand in the early 1980s or thereabouts. They also own the JVC brand. I'm pretty sure they'd have sued the pants of the Mitsuba mob for even daring to use the Panasonic name.

@bbishoppcm The manufacturer is actually called "Top Year International, Inc." and is, of course, based in China. Their web site says "Top Year Int'l Inc. was established in 1989. We started with traditional 35mm cameras and have moved onto digital cameras that range from high-quality retail to promotional giveaways. We sell under the name PROTAX in China and market the MITSUBA Brand in North America."

The guy who scammed him showed in an actual mini-dv camcorder...gave him an original camcorder box with a name brand but when he got home it was this p.o.s fake camera. He felt like crap and went back to the location where he got scammed to try and find the guy...guy was long gone. We busted his balls for days..we couldn't stop laughing.

wow thank you for that incredibly in-depth review of this totally absurd device! probably the only review of this existing on the internet? i just picked one up at a junk store (mine's a "SONY"), thankfully paying very little for it, thinking it was a pixel vision camera. kinda bummed, but now i just assume go out and shoot some pics and listen to some jams at the same time. not the WORST combo out there ;-) THANK YOU

i saw one of these at cash converters for £5.55, so i got it to see how long the cassette player would last in the microwave. It it lasted about 27.86 seconds in the microwave before the cassette player stopped and then batteries exploded!! however i did not get to upload it because the file was corrupted.

More random comments on this video: WOW lots of flutter on the cassette player. Sad part is, that piece of junk would almost be acceptable if they had just put "Playskool" instead of Panasonic on the side. Ok it still would be a piece of junk but I have seen legit toys almost that bad...

So eight years after you posted this video, I find that same gadget while house cleaning. Someone gave it to me back in the 90's brand new in a case and I never knew quite what to do with it. I think it's a fake like the one you're displaying. I was wondering should I trash this thing or what. Oh but it looks so nice...but what exactly is it I'm thinking. The lcd screen cover just fell off... I think I'll trash it.

My idea is to get a small camera (like a "spy" camera) and transmitter and mount it inside the 35mm camera part, so you can use it like a "camcorder". A microphone with preamp can be added, too. I have seen one of these at a thrift store, and spent a while looking at it, trying to figure it out. It also had the 35mm camera, LCD, and cassette player. It was ridiculous. Then also you said it had a weight. Wow, this is ridiculous! And someone buying one off the street for $100! Man!

Long comment coming up. 1. Who is Big Mountain? 2. Yeah, i always hated, and still do, how there is no fast forward on walkman tape players, i actually still have one (though by Coby) that i use. 3. The lcd sucks so bad that pulling the screen protector off, it caused it irritation, or the rainbow colors. 4. The tape glitching sound is possibly from the cassette, though possibly still from the player 5. and last but-not-least, BROKEN CLIP WHEN SHIPPED! SEND IT BACK AS BROKEN! lol

Aside from the obvious rip-off intent of this kind of crap, it is a terrible waste of resources , so I make it an environmental crime too. The companies that make the real thing will go to great lengths to minimise environmental impact of their products and also ensure they are technically excellent. To offset all of that effort, numb-nuts throw this trash together then ship it all over the planet. Great video.

I have one that has sony stickers and they don't look fake. There is even a sony retail sticker of $589.99 on it. The mitsuba sticker you have says sony on mine and there is another sony sticker on the top where the cassette player lid is. All the stickers I have line up with the body lines on my camera. The panasonic sticker on yours looks totally fake. Like it was made with a cheap label maker. I don't know anything about these cameras and your video was the first thing I came across when I googled the camera. Do you know much about these?

I like UB40, but that tape deck hurts my ears because of how it played. My God, what a piece of shit.
