Here is a quick comparison of the different Mistubishi vans going off-road. The L300's are from the mid 90's, the L400's from late 90's to around 2007 and the D:5 model from 2007 onwards.
I know it is not a great comparison as all vehicles are driven by different drivers and some vehicles have bigger tyres and some lift. At least it gives some idea what is possible.
Indeed you can really take the D:5 off-road!

Sold my L300 4x4 in a moment of madness. 550,000km , 17 years as my mobile toolbox and still going strong. Still find I'm looking at l300 vids. What a dummy, should have kept it.

I wouldn't say under rated. Their resale value is up there. Even ones from 2 decades ago.

honestly, thought the d5 did alright considering it's being pushed outside of what it was engineered to do. These ones are now able to be imported to Canada under the 15 year rule so hoping more d5's pop up on the road and more parts come available for them.

I have the l400 1995 chamonix. intended to rugerize it into a 4x4 but haven't. Want a full roof cage with spots and what would you guys add or change to make it more capable? snorkel, lift, bigger archers, bigger wheels, bash plate, rock sliders, what else?

I'm really disappointed with D5 CVT. It can't transmit engine power to wheel, properly.

Thinking about replacing my SWB L400 with a D5 but not so sure anymore after this video. Looks a bit compromised in the 4WD department, maybe it was the slow drive up.

When d 5 came out in Japan many l400 drivers moved over but most of them came back to l400 due to lack of power. But I've heard the changes made in the newer model (2018 and on?) Have made the car better.

That is why you don't put cvt in cars that are heavy or don't put cvt on any cars because they suck in general.

I think the 2.4 litre D5 should have been a 3l v6. I also read that the newer delicas have 75 % power to the rear wheels, 25% to the front as opposed to the older ones that were set up with a 50/50 ratio. I was curious how this may affect certain 4x4 terrain capabilities.

D5 are AWD not 4WD

@@groenrizla2513 I could be wrong but i looked into getting a D5 when I got my current L400... everything I read and everything people told me, that they were AWD and having sat in a few, they have no High/Low range buttons and gear levers.... No LOW range = No purchase

newt Headroom isn't too bad although you might have trouble looking out when you are 2 metres tall.

D5...should ASC OFF, 4wd Lock...to keep momentum switch to Ds....auto OFF...1 gear....

I got L400 1997 S2 SWB. I don’t want to be a buzzkill but we’ve done so much more impressive stuff and what you can see here is a Camry land :)) Delica is my pride and joy. Your Delica’s can do way more.

The D5 was downright embarrassing , L400 was adequate but the winner was clearly the L300 .

Today was a quick comparison. To be honest it would have been fairer if there was a stock standard L300 as well. Now I really look forward for some tricked up L400's and D5's!! Please post your links here!

С Д5 они испортили такую великолепную машину как Делика(( Привет из России )) У меня у самого Делика уже 10 лет. Лучший автомобиль, особенно у нас в Сибири, на Байкале.

А у меня D5 уже 5лет, куда я на ней только не ездил, по кочкам , по речкам, по лесам и везде ползёт. А здесь человек по нормальной дороге проехать не может. И прежде чем выводы такие делать что испортили возьми её и по эксплуатируй как свою. Тут просто дело не в машине, а в прокладки между рулём и сиденьем.

Ожидал от Д5 худшего. Вполне нормально, учитывая вариатор, платформу аута и не самого уверенного водителя. Конечно, грязь месить не пойдет, но на 99% нужд она годится. Не говоря о том, что комфорта в ней намного больше.
