I've found that's very common for those Mitsubishi belts. They turn into the stickiest goo imaginable. I did a HS-411 a few years ago, it was on my hand for a week in spite of cleaning. I've got several other Mitsubishis of the same age, these had belts/rollers redone a few years back by my repairman friend.

DEW sensor drift and the glue which turns conductive seems to be the only other problems Mitsubishis of this era face.

That Mitsubishi VCR overall is in pretty good shape despite the belt mess issue which has since been cleaned up and removed. I see no evidence of tampering or "attempted repair" by anyone else so that's a plus. Once again, it's Mr. Acetone (the workshop technician's best friend) for the win :o)

Love the video, going to try tackling a similar job on an HS-U69 that I just picked up. I think I am going to also pick up one of those measur-a-belt II cards. Is there an online refernce somewhere that you were looking at for belt replacements?

That green grainy soap you see in the bathroom at many mechanics shops will get that nasty goo off your hands.

I have the exact same problem with a Mitsubishi HS-U760 SVHS recorder but I can't seem to find replacement belts. Since the reel belt turned into a melted mess, I couldn't measure it so I wrapped a piece of string around the pulleys and measured the circumference,, which was 11.6 inches. Any suggestions on where I might find a belt source? I found that alcohol works well for cleanup and it is much safer health wise than using acetone.

I have a Mitsubishi HS-U65 S-VHS AS soon as you turn it on it turns it self off within 30 seconds. How can I fix this. What do you think is wrong with it? How much do you think it would cost

@@norcal715 Well, it may be worth doing that to get these up and running. Provided the discs don't suffer from rot. They may end up as cd players.
