Mitsuhara Misawa was without a doubt the best damn wrestler I never had the good fortune to see live. Growing up watching all the American greats of the 80's, it was like a revelation watching footage of Misawa. In my opionion, he was the absolute best. May he rest in peace

The Definition of a "Wrestling God" in terms of talent, skills, in-ring psychology, and so much more. He left us all way too soon. At least he went out doing what he loved, no matter how much it pained us all to hear it. We all miss him so much. R.I.P Mitsuharu Misawa.

For my money, this has to be one of the best themes in the history of wrestling and the fact that it was used for one of the best action comedies of all time is proof of how iconic this is.
RIP Misawa. One of the best to ever step foot in a pro wrestling ring. God bless.

No wrestling death saddened me more than this one... Misawa along with Kobashi, Hashimoto, and Kawada were the main guys who got me into the heavyweights in Japan. I was already into Japanese wrestling for years before but I was more into the Juniors like Liger, and even Muta who at the time was still a Junior.

@@paxhumana2015 True enough, especially in terms if legacy, but the OP was talking about in ring work and I think the four pillars are more influential in the modern style. You could probably pluck out any 4 pillar match and it would still hold up by today's standards, I don't know if the same could be said about Rikidozan, Inoki or Baba

I've heard about Mitsuharu Misawa some time ago from Dave Meltzer's tweets and a couple of days ago I just randomly decided to check out his famous matches vs Kenta Kobashi (who I also heard of but never actually seen). Oh my god, I've missed 2 of the greatest of all time, I'm getting choked up just watching their matches and hearing their theme songs, super nostalgic (even though I didn't get to witness them in that period of time). I can hear the crowd chanting MI-SA-WA MI-SA-WA :-) Rest in Peace :'-( absolute legend.

In the XIX century, Samurais fight in the end of the Tokugawa Period with this song playing in the background.
It was the hypest shit ever when this played at Glory By Honor, and when he came through the curtain, I've never heard something so loud as that crowd. Seeing him in person, he just had such a presence, I've met a few famous wrestlers, but none of them intimidated me the way Misawa did. He was just larger than life.
