Today, Ian and Mikey dive into the all-new KM-700 Irons from Miura.
While drawing on 65 years of design excellence the KM-700 epitomizes Katsuhiro Miura’s endless pursuit of perfection.
Miura irons are highly regarded for their ability to deliver performance on off center hits. The KM-700 has taken this to another level. The innovative toe-cut grind works in unison with the hosel/heel to optimize the center of gravity position. By doing this Miura is effectively producing a larger “sweet spot”.
Miura says the head design will benefit all golfers from all skill level and the result of this model is so special, you can find his personal Hanko stamp each iron.

I’m a 16 handicap, been playing the KM700 with KBS Tour FLT shafts in stiff flex. Shot all my lowest scores with these irons, they’re by far the best looking, best feeling, best performing irons I have ever played. The most impressive thing about them is how they look like blades but are so forgiving.

This style of video was great. Seemed more light hearted but still all the information anyone could ever need. Testing the player to hit certain shots is great too. I think a lot of viewers would also appreciate in fitting videos a synopsis of the fitting decision - kind of going over the build sheet and why. Great stuff in this video

I don't know how many more people would love the same video but if I may suggest: It would be amazing to have a video were you can compare KM 700, MB 101, TC 201 and 501... what do you gain, what do you loose? when chasing one or the other... spin, land angle, carry, etc. Thanks for the great content. Is hard to find technically sound and cliche-free information out there. :)

Mike's contacts were dead center and you could cover them with a US dime. Pro quality. And these irons sound great and fly like most of us dream about. Personally, I think any handicap level could play them if willing to work on consistent contact, which is something we all should work on. If the sweet spot is a bit smaller than on a game improvement iron, so what. I mishit shot is a mishit shot, but with forged blades like these a well struck shot just feels and sounds so good that it's all worth the occasional mishit. It's addictive, makes you want more. The good strike provides positive reinforcement to keep working at improving.

I was hovering around a 12HC for years, was gifted a set of MB 5002s and quickly got down to a 10 now. It's funny how missing the sweet spot makes you really want to concentrate and hit it so your teeth don't rattle out. Can't be timid with those or blades.

@@boxerboy860 Good to hear. I am sure that you are going to love them. I love those KBS shafts too. I had them in my S-Yard GT irons and I really wanted to take them out and put them in my Miuras. However, I reluctantly gave the S-Yards to the VP of the Japanese Foot and Ankle Society and he gushes about them every time we meet. I love Cobra too. My BioCell driver will always be in my bag, I didn't miss a fairway for 3 months with it. My custom assembled 3-4w initially got ridiculed because it is the pink women's Biocell head on a 43" Aldila NV shaft, but that thing is almost as long and as accurate as my driver. If the Cobra irons are half as good as the woods then they must be amazing too. I just can't imagine dropping the Miura irons for Cobras lol. As for the blades, including Hogans, I can't see a time when I will switch to CBs. Despite playing terribly this year, one 4 iron shot was so pure that I actually thought I missed the ball because I didn't feel ANYTHING! It was like a deaf cowboy cracking a whip. I think it was the only time I was truly happy even though I lost the frigging ball hahahaha.

26 handicap. Bought these when they first came out. Absolutely beautiful. That being said, only really able to use the PW...and I use that now as my club around the green and it's perfect. I sometimes use the 9iron. The rest of the set down to 5iron are hard for me to hit consistently. If you even slightly miss hit them, I have found very little if any forgiveness. That is probably because of user error more than club error given my inconsistent swing. I compare them to my Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal and it's night and day. But then again that comparison is apple and oranges given the Mizuno's are game improvement vs the KM700 which are blades. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I would agree with them regarding max 10 handicap. I'll keep the KM700s I have forever though given perhaps I will one day be able to hit them consistently...and in the interim they are like works of art to look at and practice with.

Hey guys, I play off 9 and have been playing the JPX 91 9 Tour irons 3-PW since they came out. The strength of my game is my iron play, I generally strike the ball really well and usually have good efficiency numbers. I am a high spin player and I tend to hit it quite high as well. I don’t struggle with distance, but I am by no means long. 155m 7i to give you an idea. I also pick the ball mostly, very rarely taking a large divot. Would these irons suit someone with that profile? I love the look, and I simply can’t play anything that does not feel something like a Mizuno! I have been playing MC 501s for a couple of years. I just received my KM 700s and played a couple of rounds with them. Here are a few of my early observations. The 700s have a thin top line. To me, definitely a blade look but surprisingly, not too difficult to hit. I was surprised how hot the face was given they are forged irons. My 6i was half to one club longer than my 501s. Lastly, they are freaking beautiful. Funny enough, when I first saw them, I didn’t think much of them but they grew on me. When I heard they were Miura-sans last design, I had to pick a set up. I will need a few more rounds to fully groove these in but it’s a good start so far.

@@clubchampionmedia Thanks. I assume that was the L Series .355 shaft in 4 (S). 120 grams. Wow, torque is just 1.5. 120 grams is heavy in steel. I have a set of Mizuno MP-67 cut-muscle irons with the Aldila NV Green MLTi pro-S graphite shafts. Those felt really stiff but were only 105 grams with 2.8 torque. They were tip stiff, low launch. Not for me any more at age 81!! But 120 grams in Mike's shafts with just 1.5 torque sounds like a really big boy beefy shaft. The X shaft is still 120 grams and the same 1.5 torque. This is a pretty expensive setup. The KM-700 irons cost $400 (US$) apiece. The LA shafts are not one of their options. On the LA website they cost $100 a pop. So are you looking at $500 per iron plus insertion and any puring? That would come to at least $3,000 for 5 through PW with the LA shafts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we, in our aspiration to become better golfers, supposed to hit the ball first and then the turf? While I get the logic regarding wedge sole dynamics where often we need to hit behind the ball, I'm unsure as to why Ian says that the sole helps ball striking.
@dominikaltheimer9992
@dominikaltheimer9992 Жыл бұрын
Not an expert on this topic but you want to strike the ball before the turf for sure. I guess how the club goes through the turf which is a function of the sole design will make you subconsciously make slight adjustments to the swing.

A wider sole for someone who is more of a “sweeper”, is more forgiving. Something with a thinner sole will dig into the ground much more easily, less margin for error. Fat shots will still be fat even with a wider sole.. but it’s about increasing the margin for error. Someone that delivers a great attack angle may not like wider soles because of how it interacts with the turf after contact.

The low point of the swing is supposed be after the ball for good ball striking. What happens with someone who’s shallower, and low point is at or just after impact, is the sole will still interact with some grass leading into impact. If this is happening with a thicker sole, there’s a greater chance of hitting a shot fat, but a thinner sole gives more clearance and makes it easier to slide the club in behind the ball without interacting too much with the ground.

@@dominikaltheimer9992 I am a single digit hcp and have played with old school (Mizunos) blades for 20+ years. Typically, I take a dollar bill, or smaller, sized divot. I have tried several of the modern (I guess I'm old!) irons with a wider sole and find them to not suit my game. I know that club manufacturers have come up with some good ideas over the years regarding forgiveness but much of the rest is simply marketing trying to sell more clubs.

@@glennwiebe5128 interesting feedback! I have the same divot pattern and picked the P770 specifically for their sole design. I’m a higher handicap golfer but most forgiving clubs have soles that didn’t work for me.

Hello, I'm less interested on Mike's perfect swing than in what the club is doing. Mike shouldn't be the star of the video, the KM 700 should be.

So why could a 10 who is a very good ball striker not use these?

@@krusher74 not saying they can’t use these. What I’m saying is a 10 handicap is not a very good ball striker.

@@neilcameron3021 bro if someone is a “solid” ball striker they are not going to be terrible at any other part of the game. Especially chipping and pitching. A solid ball striker is shooting under par regularly. Our definitions of solid must be in 2 different worlds. A 10 handicap who regularly shoots 84-85 often 90 and sometimes 81-82 isn’t “solid” at any part of the game. It just doesn’t work that way.

I know a hell of a ball striker that’s a 10 but just struggles off the tee so his iron play has to be money but off the tee gets him into trouble and short game is 50/50 Sincerely Champ
