Mixed Media: Experimenting with Watercolor and Colored Pencil

Mixing mediums is a great way to push yourself artistically. Experiment with mixing watercolor and various types of colored pencils and create a reference sheet to help the process.
I'll be using Posca Pencil, Stabilo CarbOthello, and Staedtler Karat Aquarell colored pencils. We'll see how they do or don't combine with watercolors, and find out what works for blending or opaque finishing details. After creating the reference sheet, I'll show you an example of how I combine these with watercolors to create a quick mixed media illustration.

hey! great, thanks, I've been using watercolour for ages and only discovered the coloured pencil combo very recently and so am quite curious about it :) But what I'd really like to see are side-by-side comparaisons, say between water-colour, pencil and gouache, mixed or "pure". If you ever want to make such a video, or if anyone knows of such videos that already exist!

I am sooooooo sooooooo sorry to ask this, cause I dont mean to be disrespecful, but, could u please tell me, what is that u painted right in the middle?.... To me it looks like the face of a woman painted flat on the surfice of the water, some kind of body shape bellow the face, but then on top... is that smoke? Mist? A cloud?.... That long thing... is it a pole?!!... Im sorry, Im so confused. Please, dont get mad or offended by this comment.

Ha, no worries! I’d painted this right around Halloween a few years back,it’s supposed to be a haunted lagoon with a ghost ship. The orange part of it is a waterfall, with the orange water creating a spooky face. That was the intention at the time, anyway. 😂
