LifeStyleDidIt had a question: on a previous leveling video you mentioned getting your pre-delay to around -18 db bc you claimed that's the db most VSTs work best at. In this video you leveled your pre-delay to around -5 db. Which is better and why? Sorry for long comment.
@LifeStyleDidIt
@LifeStyleDidIt 6 жыл бұрын
blahblahatt that video was covering pre gain into plugins. Meaning recommended signal for most plugins is around -18db. This is post gain.

looking for input on my mix workflow: (tear it apart plz) for leveling i usually end up with -snare at -15db, other percs a little lower but no lower than -18 -instruments around -27 or lower but always use stereo shaper -bass level varies many times, n mono -kick always on top, n mono then i do my basic mastering within maximus and turn up the post and pre gain to desired level without compressing How would you improve on this workflow? what things would you do differently?

Great Channel always awesome content!! Quick question, would it be smart to start with every sound you have chosen at a -6 to -10 db to begin with and then level from there as 1st gain stage? Want to know if I should start there?
@justiningram8573
@justiningram8573 5 жыл бұрын
A good tip is to keep your drums at the original volume they come at and send them to the mixer and for sounds coming from a plugin you want to aim for -18db using the master volume INSIDE the plugin that way it goes into the mixer at -18db leaving head room, from there you can start leveling your sounds. I have seen people start leveling the kick first at -6 db and some do -10 for a quieter starting point, complete all the leveling, then push up all the faders at once until the master output reaches -6db.

Still my favorite leveling tutorial on youtube in 2022. Hey Lifestyle would you please create a paid mixing beats tutorial which includes FLP's for us to follow along? I feel like I need 3 more videos just like this except switching it up so maybe a beat where the 808 is the lead instrument think zaytoven style or pierre 808 type beats. I would pay 100 for that!

Do u think its better to level before or after all the eq'ing and stuff? because i feel like if u level it before, by the time you eq and so on , the volumes/frequencies etc change and you have a diff judgement of the level. But i see you levelled before the eq'ing so im guessing thats better? Or was it for video purposes

Personal I level on the pattern volume knobs or even on the actual plugin. Then send to the mixer... Add my fx (eq, reverb + automation). Then level again on the mixer track if needed. The reason I do it this way is because on the mixer track the volume knobs will be very similar, rather than one very high n one low. It just makes the mixer look nice and cleaner this way.
