I love both but recently I’ve had a lil trouble with the 76 compressor it’s been sounding a little harsh for me. But adding more compression sound too much.

As a SOUND ENGINEER, You Should Apply the Deesser before Compressing, You want to get rid of all the unwanted Frequencies, Yeahh you can apply after compression also but first get rid of that slingy Sssh Sound. Nice Tutorial Though

Thanks for the tip man. In some cases, that’s what I do. I felt the artist vocals in particular meshed nice with the beat and applying the DeEsser at the end took out the right amount of unwanted frequencies in my opinion. Appreciate you taking the time to help though!

The Music Producer's Community is growing day by day, thanks to the internet, where Guys like you Show your skill for the benefit of other Producers, Good Work, One more Tip If you have vocals that have kinda squisy and have Room noise in them, First of all load Audio Track in the studio rack and then adjust the gate and you can do a slight EQ there, now follow whatever you have shown in the video is the right way to approach for a Good Mix. As a sound engineer at Record Plant in Hollywood. That’s an ignorant statement, there are no rules when it comes to music. Second, so many times if you stack your compressors right, with the right attack and release settings, the right microphone, sometimes you don’t even need a DeEsser, there was actually no deEssing on Carter 5! And many more. You’d be surprised. Just do what ever til it sounds good! No rules!

Would of been nice to have a before and after. Also, since you are already mostly there, why not do reverb to share a solid rough draft of the mix? Good video and tips. Also, you can slap another compressor on there. Vocals are highly dynamic and can handle it. I liked how you didn't do a crazy ratio. 2-4 is the sweet spot for sure. Mixing was good. Keep it up!

Thanks man! I'm not too familiar with audio effect rack for ableton since I'm not an ableton user, but I do know that using StudioRack will help with latency when applying these vocal chains, not to mention it helps with keeping your mixer slots clean and organized. Hope that still helps!

Hmm, what about setting the Attack higher than 2ms? Especially for rap vocals, higher attack means you can hear the consonants better and they "pop" more. Just a lil bit, maybe around 5ms? Release needs to be short tho for a better enuncuation effect. Oh and thanks! My mix sounds much better now!

The best way is to record track vocals raw. This way you can have more control over what you want to do with the recording. Also, if you add effects meanwhile recording, this can use up more resources from your computer, which can generate more lag in the audio

After - in my opinion the best decisison. But monitor it while you recording giving you best performance I think. Then you put on after recorded (you already know what tune you need to get the result while recording) but still can go in depth and give it more or less.

It works with some of the presets included, but not all. There's a list of all the plugins needed on the product page in order for the vocal preset to work.
