Although I knew this and it may be with it says on the website but from my experience with the CLA specifically not all the other clones I found it to be the opposite despite the history of the knobs being backwards I think a test would be best with the Waves CLA 76

I did know that the A/R values where reversed, but WHAT I had no idea the attack length on an 1176 was THAT short? But that would make sense seeing how so many engineers treat the 1176 like a limiter more than a compressor. Super fast attack times are of course ideal when taming transients in a vocal and such

So this means that this compressor doesn't let the transients through? Cuz 1-millisecond-sound must look like something like just a microclick. I'm a little bit confused.

So how would you use it differently compared to a regular compressor?

I always though that it felt off. Now I know why. lol
@SergeantButtersАй бұрын
When would you even use that slow of an attack? Maybe to level off transients? Feels like you might as well set it to instant.
@APaclin Жыл бұрын
Yep, that’s what it sounds like, CLA-76’ attack is slower than it should be.

newbie here, would this be useful on percussive elements and stuff with very sharp and quick transients?
@MOSMASTERING8 ай бұрын
So... whats the sifferwnce between the fastest and slowest attack time? Do you hear that difference? Fastest is virtually instant and the skowest is the equivalent of the fastest on any ither conpresssor

Some manufacturers make those knobs backwards to make it more “normal.”
@MaggaWavs Жыл бұрын
I got a question then. Since the attach is always very quick in comparison to others, is it better to use other compressors on the kick or snare for example since they have a slower attack?
@mixwithjerry Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, yes. Unless you’re trying to tame the transient on your drums. I do like the 1176 on vocals because it contains the vocal peaks really well.

Could you do a video on how to decide how much low end should come off of a vocal. Everyone seems to have different opinions or just cuts at 80-100 khz. I feel like there’s some quality tone in that range and I hate having to cut it all out
@mixwithjerry11 ай бұрын
I’ll put it on the list.
@keyshawncrump824711 ай бұрын
It depends on the artist voice mic but it obviously also depend on what your going for. To me cutting around 85-100 keeps enough to make it sound more full and sorta like you’re in the studio w the artist and the more u cut the More it starts to sound pushed back in the mix obviously w less of the vocal cutting through
@pete3816 Жыл бұрын
Or… as sound engineers, we could use our EARS and instantly realise the attack knob was orientated that way because we would HEAR what the compressor is doing to our transients? No?? I’ve never understood how people don’t figure this out instantly - unless of course they aren’t LISTENING, and are just twisting knobs for the sake of it just so they can say “look everyone, I used a vintage compressor - doesn’t my tracks sound good!” No… no it doesn’t sound good - because you literally haven’t listened to the affect of the compressor and have just dialled in what the internet told you to. Anyone who needed the information in this video is clearly not opening their ears to hear what their settings are doing to their signal.

Sadly, it's the typical modern scenario. Mixing with their eyes and not their ears.

So what are you guys using this 1176 comp for ? More for kicks ?
@mixwithjerry11 ай бұрын
For me, I use it on parallel compression tracks for kick, snare, and vocals to squash the peaks. I’ll also use it lightly on the main vocal to catch peaks.
@TemXMusic10 ай бұрын
i might be dumb but... what's the difference between limiter and compressor?
@License2Bust10 ай бұрын
Only gain reduction. All audio in the signal is kept from exceeding a certain level but nothing is boosted. The same as a compressor but only one function.
@MadGenious11 ай бұрын
Can someone explain the context? And what software this is? What it's used for?
@kaazik42011 ай бұрын
this is compressor, an audio plugin which makes loud peaks quieter, so it can brings overall volume up without distorting it, and this is one of fast ones that react to loud peaks very soon after they hit to tame attack from sound. this one differ from other compressors that intentionally pass more attack to make sound punchier
@keyshawncrump824711 ай бұрын
I feel like the 1176 overrated however it can be used to great effect but for my vocals it has this effect where it adds color to it in a weird way idk
