'This city was not real, but created by my photography', says Miyako Ishiuchi. The artist's work offers a radical vision of post-Hiroshima Japan, focusing on the alienation and disaffection characterising urban life.
In 'Yokosuka Story' 1977, Ishiuchi photographs the small port town where she grew up, the site of a US naval base, now seemingly falling into dereliction. In doing so she captures social conditions in a country haunted by the memories of the Second World War.

'I took photographs to be in the darkroom.' I love this, it's exactly the way I used to feel about black and white photography, the mysterious magical process.

'Hate' is a strong word, but I've been working in Yokosuka for seven years now, and photographing and videoing it for most of that time. The place has grown on me, a lot.

These inorganic still works without deep, or strong interaction with human beings usually appeal only to amateurs but not professionals. Nevertheless this Japanese old woman is being heiled as a "Master Photographer". Isn't World wonderful ? lol. Instagram@bluuren
