That’s bc Kuai Liang himself is a great warrior regardless who he is. Even as Sub Zero in all the previous games he was an impressive fighter and got power boosts that made him even stronger. He’s clearly the better fighter between him and Bi Han but he respects Bi Han as an older brother and follows him until his betrayal

At first I thought Hanzo was the father of Bi-Han and Kuai Liang. It would’ve made sense due to Kuai Liang was all about his fathers honor where Bi-Han hated him and had him killed. Hanzo's flame is a hellfire while Kuai Liang's flame is a pure flame of anger and discipline. What makes it different is how the Hanzo's flame become stronger and stronger as the rage consumed him while Kuai Liang's flame tempered through discipline and humility as he bears no ill will when Bi Han took over the Lin Kuei.

It's crazy how inevitable some events are: Bi Han will always turn evil. Kuai Liang will always get his scar. Shang Tsung will always seek the dragon king's army and ally himself with Quan Chi. Kenshi will always lose his eyesight. Armageddon will always happen. Makes me wonder how bad those time-lines were that the characters you fight climbing the pyramid were from.

This is the second time subzero has inherited someone elses mantle and powers and been better than them. I'm interested in seeing the subzero quanchi in the next game and how he deals with him.
