When replacing rear arches, never spot weld the inner and outer arch where they join. I always use a good quality body mastic. This bonds and seals the two panels without leaving any small gaps for water ingress.

Hi Steven. Thanks for the comments. If I was to do it again I would overlap the joints, rather than butt weld the panel on. This would have put a bit more strength in and minimised any warping. Anyway hope the videos are if some use and good luck with the the Cavalier.

@@ABIMOTO Hi Abi, I took the same approach as you when changing my disc's but used some heat from my plumbing blow torch and then knocking the crap out of it. After your vid I saw another, a chap up 'T' North and very clever 3 bolts from the inside screwed through the holes for the bearing support and pushing up against the disc or wheel hub and it worked. Watching you tube is a mine of very useful information thank you and good luck with the Drifting. Live long and prosper.

FANTASTIC VIDEO. TOTAL DEDICATION TO GETTING THE JOB DONE AND DOING THE JOB EXTREMELY WELL. I can only presume that FORD intentionally put such low quality panels on such commercial vans to sort keep the punters come again a few weeks, sorry a few years later. THE GARAGE MECHANIC WILL BE QUITE HAPPY TO HAVE SUCH VEHICLES IN LINE TO WORK ON AS IT MEANS BUSINESS IS GOOD. SO, GOOD NEWS EITHER WAY. ONLY THE OWNER will be out of pocket, as whatever financial gain has been made during business using the van, will be lost trying to keep the vehicle in good condition and roadworthy. COULD FORD PUT RESEARCH AND TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT TO PRODUCE EXCELLENT, QUALITY MATERIALS TO MAKING DECENT PANELS FOR THEIR COMMERCIAL VEHICLES? Of course they can.
@ABIMOTO
@ABIMOTO 5 жыл бұрын
To be honest the transit is a cheap van to buy and maintain. Mechanical Ford definitely put the development in. I guess to keep costs down they had to cut corners somewhere it's just unfortunate that that equates to lots of rusty transits.

Not sure, the Japanese did get on to rust in the 90,s, seems common on the Transits rust and in the same places, 'restostore' the guy who does up mowers etc has you tube channel, his Transit has rust in exactly same places as yours, the later Transits with 6spd gearbox, i do not think the 6spd is as strong as the old 5spd, in New Zealand i,m sure some have broken our local Ford dealer they kept a spare 6spd for the next one too arrive a flat bed truck.

Shocking how the modern transits rust like this, I mean I remember the mk 1 built in the 70s being a proper rust bucket when I was a kid. And the 80s models rotted faster than the owner could apply the filler, but this may be a bit old but it's modern and shouldn't rot like this. I wonder about the German stuff?
@ABIMOTO
@ABIMOTO 6 жыл бұрын
Problem is that transits are manufactured on a shoe string. Which means the quality has to take a hit. The reason why they are popular is that they are cheap to buy and thankfully cheap to fix 😀
