iPad Pro M4 - The most powerful Netflix and KZfaq machine

I have a car that can drive 300mph and live in the middle of NYC where, when I do use it, my average speed is 10 mph. Next year I will get the 400mph version of the same car! So excited!

Pretty sure any professional designer who utilizes the iPad Pro would have been happier with a 2x battery life and same form factor as last gen.

I definitely think the nano texture is for digital artists and that’s why it was added to the higher storage models!! I love to draw and digital plan on my iPad, so the texture would be nice, but not at the expense of buying a higher spec’d model! I’ll just stick to my 20 dollar textured screen protector instead!! 🤣🤣

Thank you for an honest review, the pencil incompatibility it’s absolute garbage. Not spending $1000+ for a new iPad to replace my perfectly fine m2, but could’ve spent $150 in the new pencil with no problem. Greedy hits them back because im sure there’s a lot of people like me

As an artist, the pencil improvements were the highlight for me. What I REALLY REALLY REALLY want is for Apple to make the pencil compatible with the iPhone. Then I can carry a pencil with me and doodle on my iPhone while I'm out and about. And then cloud transfer my sketches to the iPad to polish up

I'm getting an iPad Pro 13 but with the normal screen and just putting a matte protector on it. Since I'm upgrading from a 4th gen, I'll probably notice a huge difference in display and power, plus I believe it has more RAM, which is always helpful.

The wife bought me an iPad for Christmas about 11 years ago. I absolutely loved it. My daughter also absolutely loved it. We all have iPhones and MacBooks and we've never bought an iPad since. Every time a new one is launched, I say to myself, 'that looks amazing. I'd love to have one....but do I actually need one?'

Best update imo is that the base iPad now starts at 349 instead of the ridiculous 449. That’s what is going to benefit most people.

I’m rocking my 13 inch iPad Pro from 2018. Works flawlessly. If I have to upgrade at some time, I’ll buy a used m2 pro in 13 inch. They go for around $700.

I will be upgrading to the new iPad Pro 13 from a 2nd generation iPad Pro 12.9. The 12.9 has developed an issue where touch randomly stops working and the battery drains rather quickly. The 12.9 was an upgrade from the original iPad, which means I am getting 7 years between upgrades. Hopefully, this new super thin iPad Pro will survive 7 years.

I still have my 2018 iPad Pro and it still does it’s job greatly! Consuming content, editing photos on Lightroom, it’s amazing. Battery is still pretty good and I use it almost daily

The reason I love mkbhd vids is because 1. He sums up an hours event into a 10 minute video, and 2. He cuts through all the ads, claims, etc. of companies, and explains the real, practical impact of the upgrade....usually incremental. Thanks Marques

I totally get what you are saying with the “spec bump”… and that makes complete sense if you have the previous version.. but for me (and probably most people) I have an iPad that’s 6 or so years old and it’s a massive improvement. I feel that is Apple’s bread and butter, The periodical consumer. Not everyone can afford to buy the latest and greatest every time Apple drop a new device.

Still rocking my ipad pro 10.5 inch from 2017. Netflix, youtube, ebook reading, note taking still works as I needed. So im just gonna keep it.

I think the obsession with thinness is a relict of some popular science fiction novels from about 20 years ago that had everyone using a clipboard-sized personal device. Turns out we need that about as much as we need Dick Tracy's "Two-Way Radio/TV" wristwatch.

For the art people: No the new air doesn't have a 16gb RAM option for procreate layers. You'll still need to go the pro if you want the most layers possible.

After two years of trying to make the original iPad Pro M1 work just sold it this year. I got MacBook Air. Everything is suddenly 1000% more functional.

There’s missing of ultra wide angle camera on the back. As an interior designer, ultra wide angle camera is a must have feature. We need that to capture interior space, and it’s great for direct annotation on it.

There’s so many things I do on iPad: Video editing Art/Animation Graphic Design 3D Modeling 2D Game development The power is there, but it’s still held back by in many little ways that make it a pain to use it as a laptop replacement.

My 2017 iPad still does its job. Watching, browsing, foto editing and document editing. Battery is becoming an issue but a power bank helps.

I would also like to add this since you forgot to include it in the video. The 256GB & 512GB variants of the Oled ipads have a 9 core cpu and 8GB of ram, while the higher end 1TB & 2TB variants have a 10 core cpu & 16GB of ram. Just wanna put that out there for those wondering what apple meant when they were saying "up to 10 core cpu" in the presentation yesterday.

Honestly, I’ve been wanting to go full iPad for productivity and creative work for years and years. This might actually be the time for me to do it. Get rid of my 14” M3 Max 14c/30c for one of these. Also it’s great that my Ridge wallet from 2018 is just as good as the day I bought it. Especially after they sent me a new cash strap and some replacement screws since a couple backed out over the years.

My first and only ipad I own is M1 ipad pro, and I don’t think I ever will need or buy another ipad my entire life… I just hope my ipad lasts well, at least another ten years.

So great review, but am missing news about solving the side channel vulnerability. Also clear that buying a new one requires you to buy all new accessories as the old ones are incompatible. Conclusion: stick to what I have and don’t buy new one.

I love the new era od Marques not being impressed with boring half-baked products, the fact that he won't sugarcoat these products should be the bare minimum we expect of review videos, but I can't wrap my head around some people being angry that he is actually reviewing these products. Like, I showed someone his youtube channel and the person said "but he's paid by these companies to review these products, right? There is no way that he reviews these products, gives honest feedback, and only makes money through ad sense and brand deals, right?" Like, no, he literally gets crap from viewers for actually criticising what deserves criticism cuz he is authentic edit: some spelling errors

I still have my 2018 iPad pro and that has got more power than I ever need. It's an amazing device, don't get me wrong, but it's so infuriating too because a few rather simple software features (primarily individual foulders or files on the homescreen, but also a denser app layout) would make it just that much better. (There are of course also "bigger" features that I'd love to see, but I'd be more than happy if I got those mentioned above first.

For folks in the VFX/Editing/CG/Industrial Design/MedicalViz/ArchViz industries that spec bump is worth it... but thats for high end pro use.. for you know the pro version of iPad. Can already do things we couldn't do on previous spec setups. Our apps built with Unreal Engine for live virtual production on set w/these is damn pretty sweet. 🕶

Actually the single biggest announcement today was that Final Cut for iPad can edit clips directly off a USB-C drive, rather than having to import them into the stupid siloed app arrangement. This has been the single biggest issue with using these things in an actually productive way. I’d expect further changes in the next iPad OS around this which will FINALLY remove the great, stupid barrier of iPad productivity. Quite surprised Marques didn’t mention this at all.

I got the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9“. Let me tell you that iPad was thin enough. Glad I got the AppleCare because I’ve bent it unintentionally twice. I use this iPad for college with a logitech keyboard and Apple Pencil and it served me well. But six years of owning this thing I never once wished it was thinner. I wish it was thicker to fit a better battery and less likely to bend. I will probably buy the new one when it goes on sale for Memorial Day or something because at this point that iPad is just part of my workflow. Not to mention I use it for Call of Duty mobile so there’s that.

I still like my ipad with the A12Z chip...around 2019 it still rocks.

I don't know anyone that wanted the iPad Pro to be thinner. Most people have some sort of case on the iPad for protection, to carry it or use it in the field, which is a similar thickness to the device itself. Using the existing chassis or even making it a mm or two thicker to provide greater battery life, more ports, encompass the camera bulge or even more robust overall to negate the need for a case would be much more useful I feel.

No Marques, it's not a complete spec bump, there is also spec loss. They removed the second camera (probably because of thickness), which could be used for creating spacial videos for Vision Pro. It's actually the first time they removed a feature from an iPad.

One thing my new M4 iPad can do that the ones before couldn’t is playback 5k H 264 video!! Runs smooth on this iPad

You're the first person to point out why the pencil isn't cross compatible. As I suspected, it's because of the camera now taking the place of the old magnet.

The fact that the iPad is already expensive and yet 100$ more for a Nano Tech Texture is crazy

For a split second when you said the nano texture costs $100 more I thought you were going to say the microfiber is only $100 and my mind thought “yea that sounds like what they would do”

Retire iPad Pro and release the Macbook Air Pro - which is the same device, but it can run iPad OS *AND* MacOS - shipped with the removable aluminum keyboard. In next revision, add 50%-100% more battery power by including another battery in the keyboard, possibly an additional M-series chip as a co-processor.

Nanotexture is basically a 10 backs matte acreen protector on top (which i btw recommend for all tablets, its great!)

End Ipad OS and just make it the artists MacBook. That's my vote. (Edit) Valid point some people made: or a less restrictive Ipad OS. Although i say this because it seems to be apples approach to advertise to artists with iPads as of late. Which we know is not the best mode for creation. That and due to the annoyance of having to carry both my MacBook and Huion tablet in my backpack, the idea of having an iPad as my workhorse sounds nice, but since it's so limited… i ended up selling the one i had. At one point, I used my iPad and sidecar, and it was alright, but there's no incentive for developers to think about iPad screen size for desktop applications UI. So putting it all on one for developers to have this in mind and making my backpack load smaller would be nice

I still have my iPad Pro (the first one with USB-C) and it still does everything needed. It plays Videos and helps to take notes. Honestly, this was a BIG improvement for an iPad. Ever since I don't see need for an upgrade. Similar to the iPod Nano, it was just an outstanding product.

Bought the first Pro when it came out, good time to upgrade.. may make sense to any that have bought one in the last few years but massive jump for anyone with an older model like me

I got the distinct impression that this launch was aimed at the over 40s. Cook showed up in his best grey cardigan and pop sneakers.

I bought an iPad Pro m2 12.9 not too long ago. It kinda came out of nowhere as my friend wanted an iPad to draw on and said he’d buy mine off me if I was willing. I use mine for drawing too, the pencil pro seems awesome and I look forward to owning it several generations later when my m2 is dead. Judging by stories I’ve heard about the 2018 iPad and the m1 iPad. It’s gonna be a while. xD Also I thought the point of the air category was to be the thinnest and lightest, for those who want a lightweight option. For the Pro model I want it to be well, some may disagree here, weighty. It’s packing their best tech inside it plus what I’d hope is a battery that can take a beating. I would’ve preferred them to have kept the thickness, beef up the battery as that would’ve been helpful for long drawing sessions for me when travelling. For others who are working on intensive editing or out in the field where they have no access to charge at that moment.

Who needs a thinner device - it's already thin + battery life is far more important

Bought Apple refurbished A12X IPad pro 12.9 for like 500 bucks. The best value purchase I made. Glad to know that it still looks like the newest ever one.

I am a graphic designer and a CX designer, and I desperately want the iPad to be something I can use at work to replace my laptop. The hardware is incredible, but at the moment the only application that is better on iPad than MacBook Pro is something like procreate. The apps that would revolutionise the way I work if they were actually entirely useable on iPad would be things like the Adobe illustrator, Photoshop, indesign, figma, Miro, etc but at the moment they are just hollow feature-lacking and glitchy versions of their computer selves. The iPad has the potential to truly revolutionise the way we design (not just illustrate), but at the moment the IPad is just an incredibly powerful tool that can’t provide thorough enough usability on essential design applications to make it worth purchasing in addition or instead of my MacBook Pro.

I never hold my ipad up in the air, but i use it a lot and have to charge while still using it a lot. Way more battery life would have been a BIG reason for me to upgrade from my m1 13 inch. But making it thinner and more powerful, i really couldn’t care less to upgrade

I just love how much longevity these gain from being so stupidly overpowered. My 2021 iPad Pro still feels super snappy and I don’t see myself upgrading for another couple of years
