Just used the larger version of this for the first time and absolutely loved the experience! This smaller unit looks perfect for in the backpack though 👌🏼

If you only boil water in it, then Anodized aluminum won't leach any of the metal into the water. The aluminum oxide coating is not even remotely water soluble. Its only when you heat something acidic that the anodized form would poison you. Use the kettle as directed to only boil water and you're golden, Pony Boy. Cheers

Used mine just yesterday for the first time in a while, went for a chilled out walk by the canal amd had a brew under a bridge. I like it, but think the same about the base width etc. Liked the message at the end. I also chill out with a pipe, smaller tho. Cheers

I have one of these that I have used regularly for about 10 years. Some pointers: 1) don’t overfill the container or it will spill out as it did in the video. Leave about 3/4 of an inch from the top. 2) the neoprene sleeve will never get hot; even when boiling, you can just grab it like a glass to pour it out. 3) I keep a small piece of aluminum with it to cover the spout hole and prevent ash from getting in the water. 4) the kettle is really useful if you master refills and are able to boil several kettles of water in a row. I use a liter thermos as my main water bottle, and pour the hot water into that for storage as I boil the next kettle of water. I also keep another bladder that I refill the kettle with. The technique is, when it boils, pour it into the thermos or into your freeze dried food; set it on the ground (no rush); refill the kettle from the bladder; carefully push any longer sticks in the fire basin that may get in the way into the fire; then replace the filled kettle and start adding sticks. The fire will die down but you can bring it back by adding new wood and giving it a few breaths. If you are on a several day hike with a few people, you save a ton of weight in fuel. Let’s say you’d boil a liter of water per person per day (a very conservative estimate); think about how much isopro fuel that is for four people on a three-day hike. It’s a little more work to use this kettle but you never have to worry about running out of fuel.

Had 1 for a while here in Australia, compact & built solid. Does the job. A Trangia metho burner is a good fit for it too. Good video. Agree with instability of narrow fire bowl too. Thanks for sharing.

We never get snow in the UK. Just rain and sleet.

I’ve been considering this exact thing seeing as the main time you want efficient fast water boiling is when it’s too cold to mess with a water filter and/or you want to melt snow right? I reckon the move is you melt snow in a pot using the stand that goes on top. If it’s fresh snow you’re good. If it’s not, you transfer to the kettle to get a proper boil (keeping in mind to always have some water in the kettle to protect the seams

I had one a few years ago and got rid of it; an appalling design being so top heavy. this sort of kettle is supposed to be more efficient in windy conditions whereas this one just gets blown over! The bottom of the base is far too narrow to be stable in use, I have a trekker model of a Kelly kettle and it is far more stable in use. Still, I hope you enjoy yours.
