My opinion: this is a superb competitor to mini Bugout, Bel Air, Deka, and Kizer. Everything is better! Incredible!

I recommend this over BM 537/945, KAI Bail Air, and even Hogue Deka. The only knife that still competes with Yipper is Spy Manix 2 LW

I really like that one! I have no restrictions whatsoever when it comes to blade length so I’d prefer a bit longer handle/blade but that’s a winner for a small knife. Great review!

The $129 manix 2 Rex 45 seems pretty good and I seen balde hq has a m4 in mint green handle . Pretty much the same but the acoustics with a tightened pivot are smooth and sounds so cool on my version . I love it . I roll edges all the time when I should have grabbed a utility knife blade and didn’t 😂

The Sencut Scepter is basically a budget version of this. There is also an Ozark Trail that is a super budget version.

thanks for the review friend, have seen in some places that the blade has a design flaw because it hits the screw when you fold it strong enough ruining the edge in the long run, is it the case for you?

Reminds me mostly of a ProTech Malibu tanto style. A bit smaller than the Malibu.

Malibu is more ergonomic being a mid sized knife. This one is more robust though especially the lock.

- Yipper should be compared to Mini Bugout, BM 945, Bel Air and Hogue Ritter Mini RSK. All have the Crossbar Lock. - Yipper is $13 less than Mini Bugout plus it gives you G-10 over plastic and MagnaCut over S30V. - I’ve heard of issues with the Yipper’s blade hitting the barrel spacer and slightly denting the blade edge.

They state blade steel hardness between 61 -63. I wonder how good its edge retention will be.

I think it’s actually right at 63 or even harder. Perfect range for magnacut!

Does yours have the issue of the blade contacting the barrel spacer? I have been seeing this being mentioned quite a bit. Not sure if it is all of just some of the the first run.
@CuttingBoardRx
@CuttingBoardRx 17 күн бұрын
Mine had zero issues but they did occur on early knives. The company admitted it. The fixed it by swapping in larger thumb studs.

Hey, I have a question about this knife. I am looking for a new EDC knife, and I can't decide between the MKM Yipper and the Civivi Sendy. I know the Yipper has a way better steel, but would it be worth all that extra money when Nitro-V is fine enough for what I personally need it to do?
@CuttingBoardRx
@CuttingBoardRx 3 ай бұрын
Apparently I lacked out with the Yipper some folks had a major issue with blade hitting the back spacers when flick-closing. I’d stay away from it if I were you.

Fixed angle all the way for a perfect “v” edge . Hand sharpening tends to convex the bevel and probably tougher for sure actually . I like covex edges on my thicker cold steel type blades

I love the Italians style , like really really love it but their execution on heat treats with some modern steels, specifically Magnacut is subpar. Also, I don’t think I have ever had an Italian knife with *wonderful* action, only mediocre. How do you like the action on the yipper?
@CuttingBoardRx
@CuttingBoardRx 2 ай бұрын
My and your lucky day: I got two questions for the price of one, and you got a hardness test on a portable tester that I just got yesterday! 59.6 HRC 😁 So about the action: mine is just perfect. But! Read some of the comments below. There was a bad batch. MKM fixed the issue by enlarging the thumb studs to serve as the stop in closed position.

@@CuttingBoardRx That’s cool you got a hardness tester! I have to go down to the local machine shop to use my friends, luckily I have a “hook up” because he works there. Inheriting a job/destiny does NOT mean someone will be passionate about the work... It can often mean quite the opposite. Id prefer to buy from people who SEEK the craft and DESIRE to be great at it. The only knife ive bought from maniago was a lionsteel/spyderco collab called the lionspy, and i was disappointed. I think ill pick up a yipper though... Being a fan of the deka, this looks like something I'll definitely carry often!!

That is an interesting take and a good point. Generational experience likely provides a huge benefit to those who inherit a trade from ancestors...but only if the pride, talent, and work ethic are there. Lack of experience often shows in newbie designs. Sometimes the design is innovative but the engineering and execution are crap.
@CuttingBoardRx

I don’t entirely agree. If somebody’s father is a great fisherman, that person is very likely to be a good fisherman as well. That’s part learned behaviour part genetic. Obviously not every sibling in such family, will inherit the skill and passion for fishing, but some transference is very likely. Besides, to work in one of these shops, a kid would have to go through full up apprenticeship, unlike somebody hired off the street at a minimum wage.
@CuttingBoardRx
@CuttingBoardRx 5 ай бұрын
The more I think about your point the less I agree with it. I’ve been to Italy several times I visited a city that is specialising in carving cameos. I did not notice anybody being disappointed in their jobs even though they carve cameos days in and out. Hereditary pride is nothing to sneeze at. Something American knife makers should be considering when selecting location And training their workforce. Example: the shitty craftsmanship of Medford knives vs. CRK guild-level perfection

@@CuttingBoardRx I'm speaking from experience. Passion will always be a better motivator than "well, my dad and his dad did it". Yes, growing up with accumulated knowledge being dropped in your lap is an advantage, but it doesn't improve ones natural skill or passion to be great. Is a person inherently better at clock making because they're swiss? No... But the accumulated experience and knowledge is available to them if they yearn to learn. We have KZfaq now ... And China has cnc tech.... Saying a knife is better than another because of a country of origin is beyond ignorant at this point.

Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement, the Highest Hebrew holiday of the year and the most somber one. I doubt there’s any connection.
