My favorite song and one of the best by MLV (but that will not be accurate assessment - as I have yet to come across a song not sung well by her). Anyway for me this song is heavenly. There is no word marmaalu in the kriti. The word is marmamunu, which she pronounced correctly.

I think this raga is called Shudha Hindolam or Varamu - the Dhaivatham is different between Hindolam and Varamu/ Shudha Hindolam. Hindolam has Shudha Daivatam(d1) where as Varamu/ Shudha Hindolam uses Chaturshruthi Dhavatham(d2).

That is happening increasingly even in current generation singers, unfortunately. I wish they pay more attention to sahitryam.

Basically all these renderers are tamilians. We telugu people must be very indebted to them to maintain the stream of tyagaraya's compositions to us. Since they cannot know the nuances of telugu matuvu viz. Sahityam and it's meaning, they could not do justice to lyric and pronunciation. Inspite of it we must be indebted. Our telugu renderers are not even trying to do justice to lyric. For example, Raama nannu brovaraa song even semmangudi rendered "vemako" lokaabhirama. Actually it must be "prema to". Only our telugu people must do these "parishkarams" and advise them.

1. If it is just an observation, we can leave it at that. For a native tongue person, it is but natural to express this observation. 2. If it really means that this needs to corrected, then the commentator has to start listening to present day living stars and if they make mistakes, dare to tell them thru their channels, since everyone has their social media channels. Why I am telling is this - compared to present day performers, yester-year performers, had either basha gnaanam itself or were careful not to make mistakes to the best of their efforts.
