Because rushing a pitcher can lead to injury. Rushing a position player can lead to just having to send him back down for more experience.

i agree, its hard to believe it will but you can always come back from TJ. Wish him well and you never know some guys are built different. The only thing about sports that i hate is injuries.

He would have a better chance as a reliever. A guy that throws that hard - your body is just not made to hold up to that kind of torque over time. The more innings and age he gets under his belt, the less his body is going to tolerate it - especially because he is throwing breaking balls as well. Its not like Chapman who just came in and threw about 15 torches each night.

Why does everyone think this guys arm is going to blow out? He looks pretty controlled to me like he has another gear he could reach if he wanted. I could be wrong but he is putting the ball anywhere he wants, usually when you throw your hardest that is almost impossible to do.

He’s 6’6” and very heavy, he throws 100 with ease. I think he will last bc he’s not exerting as much energy for velo like smaller guys throwing that hard.

Looks like he still has a good amount of room for improvement (this is coming from an LSU alumn and ex-catcher who is emphatically rooting for Paul). He's leaving a lot of balls out over the middle of the plate, missing high, and hitting opposite ends of the zone from where the target is. He's able to get away with this much easier in triple A, and he is not being forced to get out of high pressure jams after going deeper into a game. His talent is undeniable, but I can see that they are working carefully to get him more prepared so that he is able to step up to the show and be successful, which will be important for both his long term confidence and health.

I dont ever remember announcers talking about pitch speed as much as they do nowadays. Before it was just "Skenes blows a fastball by the batter at 100 mph" instead of "Skenes blows a fastball by the batter for the strikeout". It may seem subtle but mlb is really being gobbled up by number nerds an analytics now, pitch speed, pitch count, ball roration etc etc. Very bizarre.

The Pirates will not bring Skenes to the majors because they are planning to trade him for prospects. Right now, there are more than a few teams that can use him. The Pirates are assembling their list of prospects from those teams and when they get their price Skenes will be gone. It's not personal, it's just good business.
