In a league where we sometimes get too enamored with homerun hitters, we need to appreciate guys who can do everything else at a superb level. That was Ichiro.
@J_Ris287 жыл бұрын
5:00 People don't even realize that Ichiro could've hit a lot more home runs than he did. He stayed with his singles, get on base approach and it that's what baseball really is about but when his team needed a home run he would change his approach and swing to hit it out. Like he did against Mariano, two outs down one run with a man on base he hit the first pitch out and ended the game. Give this man his respect
@SamuelJ888 Жыл бұрын
I've always felt the same thing. He just had to make an adjustment on his launch angle. But it meant more for him to get on base consistently than it meant for him to hit dingers.

As a long time Mariners fan, I'm happy to see Ichiro still playing well. He came to Seattle and instantly impacted not only our team but the entire MLB. Guaranteed first ballot hall of famer. Can't wait to see 3,000 hits in the MLB this season.

I don't really follow baseball but I always took note of Ichiro because of things like "people don't run on him" or that "he has the power to just go for home runes but decides to just concentrate on getting base hits" stuff like that. So why did he part with Seattle? I always thought everyone loved him there and that he could have been like an MLB one teamer.

He is honestly one of my favorite players of all time. The fact he was so good for such a long time is incredible, and the fact that he played kindly with only getting thrown out once is amazing. Just an amazing person in general.

3000 hits and started MLB at 28 years old. Think about how hard that is. Respect.
@marchendrickson23826 жыл бұрын
This compilation left out really the best of Ichiro...the best was the pair of signed cleats he sent to the young girl in Seattle that kept up the Ichi-meter on his side of the outfield with a note thanking her. He is the definition of pure class and honor. 1st ballot hall of famer without question or doubt
@cindyinnew2 жыл бұрын
The only time he ever threw a bat in anger was followed with a letter to the makers of the bat apologizing for misusing the bat and not respecting the hard work of the people who made it. Who else does that? He’s one in a million

when you watch ichiro swing, he isnt going for the fences or anything, it's like he calculates exactly where the fielders are and he puts the ball exactly where they arent. He's going for the tactically best possible place to put the ball, and he knows how to hold and swing the bat for it to get there.
@cindyinnew2 жыл бұрын
And he manages to watch the ball even as he’s hitting it. His discipline and concentration is absolutely awe inspiring

Most people dont realize the Japanese season is considerably shorter (most games Ichiro played over there in 1 season was 135). Even if his average was slightly lower over here, he would have still most likely gotten the same amount of hits per season with the extra 27 games, although his .350 average as a rookie for the mariners really shows how much harder it was over here for him. ICHIRO>ROSE (and i'm from Cincinnati)

I'm a big Ichiro fan. People making a big deal about if his MLB hits and Japan hits should be combined. Take it for what it is, a great accomplishment. My opinion, 2 separate leagues so 2 separate hit totals. But nobody can take away his 3,000 hits in the MLB where he began his career at 27!

My 2 most memorable Ichiro moments are when he dances around the catcher at home plate to avoid the tag (search "Ichiro ninja", he did that twice actually), and his game-winning hit in the 10th inning of the WBC 2009 finals against great rival Korea. Here's what went through his mind during that at bat: blog.japaneseballplayers.com/2011/03/ichiro-and-his-thoughts-as-he-entered-his-at-bat-at-2009-wbc-final/

Pete Rose is a bitter old fart for claiming Ichiro's Japanese hits don't count ...
@franklu92877 жыл бұрын
the only reason you say that is the fact that you think the pro baseball players in japan are inferior to american pro baseball players. Obviously not because you can see numerous Japanese players in the mlb who have the luxury of leaving japans pro baseball leagues to pursue careers in america.
@STARxSILENTxSTARx7 жыл бұрын
+frank lu well when you look at japan's league you realize there's far fewer teams and players, meaning that those players will see the same pitchers far more times than in the MLB
