There's an old saying in baseball. " The umpire isn't always right, but they're never wrong ".

Even when they aren’t right they’re still not wrong

that’s how talented these umpires are, even if they’re wrong they’re still right.

Used to be that throwing behind the batter was asking to get thrown out. Surprised it took two pitches but I guess the ump wanted to make sure.

His brain glitched and he just froze 😂 It's like he was thinking "the umpire's vision is based on movement, hopefully he doesn't notice me."

My fave was when Roger Clemens got thrown out for saying something to the umpire in a playoff game in Oakland. On the replay, you could see him drop an F bomb.
@bsmartr806Ай бұрын
I always want to know what they are saying back and forth, which is why I love Jomboy. For example what was the first pitcher saying, "I didn't mean to throw 2 balls at the batter, I just really really suck at pitching."
@mikecumbo753129 күн бұрын
Years ago, Texas at Baltimore, the Rangers starter got tossed two or three batters into the game for arguing balls& strikes. Texas put in the pitcher who was supposed to go the next day. The ejected pitcher started the next day.

Never liked Lackey
@kendallevans4079Ай бұрын
Angel fan here and I never did either. He would scream at his teammates for missing a play, if things weren't going his way he would come unglued right there on the mound BUT the worst was when he went to the enemy, the Red Sox. He claimed in the presser "This is where I always wanted to be"....JERK!
@cisium1184Ай бұрын
Unusual guy. Excellent pitcher.
@timothyhill6879Ай бұрын
I will defend the John Lackey decision. Lackey's defense was that he was rusty after being out of action. I'm sorry but, if you are that out of form that you throw behind a batter first pitch then hit them on the second, then you should not be playing. For everyone's safety. Similarly I'll also defend the Strasburg decision. Strasburg hit a batter in the first inning and warnings were issued. He then threw three consecutive wild pitches. Ump saw enough. The commentator said it all "What's a scarier thought is if he didn't mean to do that"
@jdotozАй бұрын
Makes sense. You get to a point where the umpire is just doing what the manager should have done.

All the balls and strikes calls actually look correct to me. Good on the umps.

Scioscia was actually in not bad shape then. He just continued to get bigger with each passing year.

(03:30 Strasburg) Why would a pitcher "intentionally" bean a batter when it results in a run for the opposing team? ... Umpire demonstrated zero reasoning skills!
@warrenduree9417Ай бұрын
Lackey 1000% threw those on purpose Some insight on this... this was his first start of the season after coming off the DL. He had been out since the previous season. There was bad blood between the Rangers and Angels that carried over from the previous year... there was a lot of beanballing back and forth, and it had culminated in a late season brawl in Arlington during the final series between the two. Before this game, there was some jawing done on local media, with Lackey saying he was ready because he wasnt there for the brawl last year, and Kinsler doing some jawing as well on Dallas radio. The umps were well aware of this and were ready. Lackey was rightfully tossed quickly, and so was Scioscia when he came out to argue. Fun fact... Kinsler ended up coming around to score, giving Lackey an ERA of infinity to start the season.

Hitting players and arguing balls and strikes. Duh! I think that when Strasborg was thrown out of the game, the run coming in from third has to return to third if the ball is dead. But, in a situation when the batter is thrown behind, the ball is NOT dead, and then it is a wild pitch> So the pitcher could be thrown out and yet still have an opportunity to make a play at the plate. That situation I would LOVE to see. Anyone know the rules on this??
@rayray4192Ай бұрын
Bob Davidson is a real man. Awesome umpire.
@pickin4you28 күн бұрын
Two things wrong here. If a HIGHLY paid pitcher can’t keep that ball around the plate, he should never be a pitcher. Next, these umpires have WAY too much power. They need to have some higher ups in their departments to come down on them for these quick throw outs. Both are not good. Making baseball look like pee wig leaguers. The umpires as well.

His excuse could be reasonable if pitchers don't have warmups, but they do. You don't miss the plate by 3 ft after you're warm unless you're trying to hit a guy.
