Just think of when we had Madden and NFL Quarterback Club and NFL Blitz all existing on the same platforms. I’m dating myself, that was 25 years ago, but still… competition made the games better.

This is spot on, last year I took a break for a month from playing the show and came back and I couldn’t use my old players and had to grind again for an “eligible squad” I just deleted the game instead

I don’t even play diamond Dynasty, I play road to the show and this year they’re making it impossible to get Nike equipment through packs and you can’t even buy that equipment in the marketplace if you want to buy it. It’s bullshit. They just keep taking all your money.

I used to love MLB The Show because they bucked the trend started by EA only focusing on the mode that could make them more money from microtransactions. EA put all their focus into Ultimate Team, and the franchise/career modes became stale and unplayable because of it. But they don't care about that because $$$. MLB The Show used to have good Franchise and RTTS modes. And while they did start to put more attention into Diamond Dynasty, they didn't neglect the rest of the game. But now they just make the smallest adjustments to each of those modes and put all their focus into Diamond Dynasty, and now it seems like they're not even doing a great job with that. I hate that this statement makes me sound old but it's unfortunately the current state of gaming: I miss the days where I just gave game companies my $50 or $60 (or whatever) and that gave me the entire game, rather than needing to make microtransaction purchases to get any sort of add-on to keep up with gameplay

Preach Joez. This shit is fucking lame. They've completely neglected franchise mode for DD, and even DD is fucked now from where it was a few years ago. 2K and EA did the same shit. That being said, I'm still buying EA CFB 25 when that comes out. They confirmed no microtransactions in Dynasty, so I'm fucking rolling with that shit, and if thats the only edition of the game I ever buy I'll be happy. I'm a huge CFB fan. But for my baseball fix, I can't fucking deal with The Show anymore, and we have no real alternative. I like messing with Super Mega Baseball sometimes, but I get the itch for a proper baseball sim and we can't fucking get that anymore.

Maddens franchise mode has had the bare minimum put it to it for 10 years now. We still can only relocate with a hand full of of logos and team jerseys.

Preach Joez! This business model for a "game" is awful. Back in the day we used to unlock cool stuff like look at Mario baseball you even had to play the opponent to unlock them and it was awesome. Now they just paywall everything off and it's so shallow too.

I think the lowest point in my life was during covid playing MLB 20 The Show, and watching youtubers grinding out the game. So since i would work 5-7 days a week and couldn't go anywhere, I'd force myself to grind the game. And I'm an average player at best so i would just drop hundreds of dollars into the game to make it look like i had good players or whatever. After being depressed that summer, i told myself i would never do diamond dynasty again. I don't even want to know how much i put into that game cause now in 2024 i got married, have an apartment an probably could have used that money into shit i need now. I only do franchise mode now and even that's a depressing time cause trying to playing 162 and wanting to play with multiple teams is a worser grind. I wish they could bring back the 14, 28, and 82 game season modes so i could probably enjoy more with a condensed roster. But I'll probably continue to pay full price on release day for a game that I'll somewhat play regardless.

Yeah this year’s diamond dynasty layout is fucking abysmal. Most the cards are paywalled, they restart the season like every two months so you’re endlessly grinding, they refuse to put any gameplay related content into the game that’s not events, it’s just become stale and awful. The product SDS puts out shows much they care about the game (not a single fucking bit, they’re just there for a paycheck).

KZfaqr Drew Gooden had a good idea in a video a while back. They should make a new game every 3-4 years and just release roster/ uniform updates periodically so they can spend more time making the next version

Tbh I think this is the best sports game there is. Now all sports games are just casino’s and horrible business practices, but I like the seasonal cards where you can come back after 2-3 months and basically restart with the new set cards or keeping the base cards. I finally broke the sports curse and not buying any but MLB is the only game where I feel like I can win with the base cards other than Madden’s p2w animations and 2k’s cards that are obsolete in literally 2 weeks

Honestly, I feel betrayed by SDS. I've been a huge supporter of their games for nearly two decades. This game changed in such obvious ways in a colossal attempt to milk as much money out of its fans as possible. All while managing to remove nearly all the fun of playing. I've been so excited in the past about what's coming next in this series. This year, I don't give a shit. Unless they make massive changes to whomever is currently calling the shots, I'm not playing MLB the show ever again. MVP baseball is coming back.

The more creaters speak out like this, the more companies will start to care. Don't buy the games. Don't give them the money anymore.

I miss the days when Franchise was the premier mode. At this point, the only sports game worth a damn is Rocket League

First baseball game I've basically ever played is the The Show 22 when it came to Gamepass. I like getting Achievements. 23 and 24 both hit Gamepass as well, I basically 100% the achievements and log off till next year. Achievements are something to do and once those are done, I dont feel like I have anything else to actually do in the game since I don't play BR and don't feel like I need to grind cards for modes I don't play when I'll lose them all by the next year's version anyway. I picked up 21 at GameStop for literally 99 cents so I could 100% all the ones on Xbox and that's really all I do with it. It's fun for a while and then very quickly it's just not.

The current state of AAA sports games is why I like supporting indie/non-mainstream sports games. Some of them are pretty good despite not having a big spotlight on them. The baseball game I've played the most is literally in Japanese, and I still enjoy it more than any MLB The Show game recently.

The Show has always sucked, but like all sports games, the pay to play modes taking focus makes it much worse. Game has played/felt the same since 2008, and was never even as fluid as MVP 2005. Which is 20 years old. Yet suckers pay $60 for this shit every. Year. On top of all the pay to win BS they feed into because they have gambling addictions.

I completely agree with you man. I used to love sports games but all the ultimate team shit ruined the games for everyone else. You are gouged just to play the game and imo most sports games aren't even fun anymore. They found a way to make the gameplay terrible and still make bank of the rabid gamblers that pour thousands into cards year after year. It's sad.

100% FACTS. Everything was better 10+ years ago in the mainstream sports games. It's probably why 90% of sports games I play now are from 2010 or earlier.

I decided this year that I'm no longer giving money to SDS via the game purchase (I haven't bought stubs in several years). I have GamePass and had been doing the GamePass upgrade preorder. I'll just play it for "free" now. They honestly haven't deserved a full $70 purchase in a few years or more. And Joez is spot on man. If you have a family and a job, you can't play these games. It isn't just sports games, though, it's most online/multiplayer games across the board. Look how crap CoD is now. Over grindy, over monetized crap.

i disagree with most of that. I am having the most fun ever playing this game this year. There is a ton to do and i dont reallly understand the feeling of being behind? I work 50 hours a week and have kids but have found time to complete xp path and complete all the programs and i just play a few days a week and im not even any good. 400 rating in ranked. i just love baseball and am enjoying playing the game instead of worrying about cards or spending money or being behind. I am just playing.
