Leiter had his struggles but man he has come so far since last year, his off-speed is nasty. Kid is gonna be fine

Maybe but maybe not he's 24 years old almost and he just made his debut and it wasn't impressive at all. In fact it was a huge letdown he was hit extremely hard by a bad offense. I don't know what your definition of fine is going to be but this guy was the second pick in the draft it was expected to be a big time starter and that just doesn't look like it's in the cards right now

I can confidently say that every time I see Josh Smith at bat, it’s gonna be a hit and the bullpen held up today, Leiter still has a lot of room to grow

DFA Maeda. He was borderline in Minnesota last year, he throws HR batting practice to everybody this year. Detroit pitching staff has been too good this season to keep Maeda out there getting blasted.

@@andrewtrosper2513 I think Manning is still working his way back from injury. They had him up for a start, got through it OK, but he looked a bit rusty. I recall he barely got through 5 innings. But you're right, they need to replace Maeda in the rotation. (it's tough watching older pitchers lose their stuff, but I don't see Maeda regaining form).

If you live long enough, you will see Al Leiter's son making a debut in the big league. I can't imagine how proud their parents are of his son making a pitch by pitch in his first game. Jack Leiter has good fast ball. But he needs to sharpen up his breaking balls. The battle of best lead off hitter in American League went to Marcus Semien over Riley Greene in a slight margin.

I think Harris needs to ask what happened to Maeda's velocity? And his control? Also would be nice to have Matt Manning in the rotation rather than Maeda.

Manning is a fly ball pitcher with a penchant for giving up the long ball. Maeda at least has him beat on experience. Honestly, I'd probably trade them both for a Tyler Anderson.

Rough debut with Lieter, but he has potential. If he can cut down the opening walks in innings, he will be a very good pitcher. Hope he has a good 2nd start.

@@cour1988Yes it would have helped but he didn't pitch well. He was hit extremely hard and had bad control. Could have looked better with some help defensively but this was an unimpressive showing against a terrible offense

@@arthurfonzarelli9828 I mean 5 innings allowing 4 runs would have been pretty good. Assuming he had a clean 5th inning after getting that catch. But that's just how it goes. Hopefully he'll get another shot. I like his stuff. But yeah control has always been the question with him

Weird how Leody can make some incredible sliding catches in the outfield but on routine fly outs mans literally looks like Nelson Cruz out there sometimes. Also takes the occasional bad angle to a ball. I’m assuming Boch doesn’t feel Wyatt is ready to play LF consistently yet, but how much much worse could Carter in CF be than what we’re currently seeing?

A little bit of welcome to the show for leiter today but I keep saying the rangers just need to stay afloat until degrom and scherzer are back. With lorenzen added as well this rotation is gonna be a problem when healthy. Dane dunning is a solid starter and Bradford looks like a completely new pitcher. Then you still have grey and heiney as spot starters possibly long relief guys. The staff has been shaky so far but help is coming soon

Finesse pitcher relying on two pitches all game. Man needs to incorporate more quality variety. He needs to Jamie Moyer it up some. (I say finesse as he throws 98, a full 2mph faster than what the pre-game graphic had him pegged throwing).

The guy was turned the wrong way from the side the ball was falling, tried to turn to the right and back peddle to catch the ball. Looked completely stupid and uncoordinated. The only thing that didn't happen that would have made him look like a complete challenged individual, was that he didn't fall backwards on his a**.

The runner shouldn't get away with sweeping a fielder to avoid being tagged. He should be out even touching any part of the body of the fielder with the ball.
