Tim Raines is one of the most under-appreciated players in MLB history. "Rock" was a 7-time All-Star, 2-time World Series champion, and lead the league in steals four times. He was must-see television.

I met Tim Raines on a golf course where I worked when he was playing for the Marlins and he looked like he was carved out of stone. His calves had right angles like a freaking brick or a cinder block lol. Ozzie Guillen was with him too . They were both really friendly but Raines looked like a running back or a body builder . Great baseball player !

Rock was disrespected by not being inducted his first year eligibility. He was dominant.

HOF worthy for sure, he had the misfortune of playing at the same time as Rickey Henderson, or he'd have been in a lot sooner, and been more heralded. Playing in Montreal didn't help either

I'd forgotten he was a Yankee for a while. What a terrible blight on a wonderful career. ;)

He won 2 WS with the NYY. He’d never trade that for the world.

For sure, an electrifying player - the Expos are counting on him - the announcer says...yes he was such an integral part of the team!

If qualitative stats were better appreciated in the 80s, so would Tim Raines.

I discovered why there are no steals in today's game, too many people skipping leg day. Rock was built, notice that lower body shot about 20 seconds in. Baseball in the 80s was great.

@@bradleyhamrick7018 I met a lot of players and former players working there. Mostly Reds and whoever was in town playing against them. Raines and Dave Parker stood out as big strong looking dudes.

Football and basketball just got more popular. When I was in high school we only had a couple of black guys who played baseball. The rest played football and basketball. I also think in poorer neighborhoods it's easier to get a game going with just a football or a basketball and a hoop. Other than buying gloves and bats "which can get expensive". I know that's not all of it but I really think that plays a large part.

Raines was terrific his first 6 seasons but after that his stolen base attempts fell off a cliff. He still had a good SB percentage but he seemed to lose the motivation to steal bases dropping from at least 70 per season to 50 or below.
