I believe this was the first of his many memorable broadcasts…among them…(Hank Aaron’s 715th homerun, Dwight Clark’s ‘The Catch’, and Sandy Koufax’s perfecto)….RIP VIN

How and where did they find the kinescope of this broadcast? Like game 7 of 1960 WS it was hiding in Bing Crosby's wine cellar. If you find game 7 of the 1955 WS kinescope broadcast and Sany Koufax's perfect game in 1965 those are 2 bricks of gold to look for if possible. And yes Vin RIP you got to call one of the greatest games in the history of the game

And the Dodgers would play one more season in the Big Apple 🍏 before saying goodbye to Brooklyn and Ebbets Field for the greener pastures of sunny California, and eventually Dodger Stadium (after playing their first four seasons at the L.A. Coliseum).

Scully claimed only one other perfect game had ever been pitched before, but that was in the regular season. The record books show there was 2 in 1880, one in 1904, one in 1908 and one in 1922 before Larsen's. I would imagine he was referring to the one from 1922 then. But I'm not sure why he didn't know about the others. Were they "uncovered" in later years and then put into the record book sometime after '56? Interesting thought for other trivia nerds like me. Also I have sometimes wondered if there was a point where a no-hitter or a perfect game occurred but it was not a cause for any kind of celebration because they didn't have anything to call it at the time, and it wasn't some kind of known accomplishment, so the team just walked off the field as if it was any other game, just thinking to themselves wow we were really good today.

Just a guess, but Baseball historical record keeping has developed over time.🤔 Some achievements were not “known” until many years after they occurred . If you for example go back to the Baseball Encyclopedia as it was in the 70s you’ll quickly notice that not everything is exactly as it is now, And generally much less data was “known”. Here Scully is working with a BE Circa 1956 , which one would have to imagine is that much more “immature “ from where it is now.🤷‍♂️ I actually think what you are saying about perfect games being pitched but not noted at the time is definitely possible if not indeed probable. By now they’ve through research supposedly identified all of those and likewise achievements, Although the research continues and is not a hundred percent complete - and perhaps never will be so. 🙂

I was just watching this and noticed the same thing. The 1880’s games were played under different rules (needed 8 balls for a walk for example) so should be considered separately.

Vin Scully was the best the game of baseball ever had calling the game. He didn't just tell you the stats, or the players, he would weave the game into a story, sometimes even telling stories during the inning.

Scully calls a classic and historic game like this where the fans are mostly in suits. What a shame that his last few games on the air were at modern day Dodger Stadium half filled with tatted out gangbangers and hoot rats. Pitiful.
