I don’t know quite how to word this but the passion these fans had is what makes soccer such a world wide sport. Representing the country and wearing the colors will always be different. Baseball finally got to experience it. This was in NO WAY like the past WBC, this one was much BIGGER. There are still many haters saying the tournament is pointless and they can get hurt blah blah, guess what, they get hurt during spring training also. They need to keep this tournament consistent and out of the Olympics where it will loose steam. Again comparing it to the World Cup, all the best players that get paid millions go and represent their country every 4 years, it’s beautiful. This WBC felt like that!!!

Trout has committed for 2026, right? I imagine he will spend the entire season that year as, at that point, one of the greatest legends in MLB history already with around 500 homers in just his mid 30s and just go around recruiting every single US superstar to this team. The lineup for this tournament was stacked, with at least 4 HOFers. But I expect even more next time in the lineup and especially in the bullpen and rotation. We need at least 2-3 HOF caliber aces to commit to do this next time. No one on the current rotation would even be a 2 on a playoff team (maybe the exception is Lynn but no one else even would be considered close to a 2 on a playoff team right now). I did love Waino's impact on the roster as a legendary veteran in his final season who has done literally everything you could do in the game.

I think Trout will be alright sure maybe a bit past his prime but he probably will be in the corner OF or even possible DH if Shohei goes to a new team.
@wwpjd28
@wwpjd28 Жыл бұрын
@@wilkesmcdermid7906 By that point, yes he probably will be off CF. But he will do the typical elite player transition towards more power hitting. I think we will see at least 1-2 50 homer years from Trout in the next 5 seasons. His swing and pop isn't going anywhere. He just has to stay healthy and 2021 was really the only majorly messed up season injury-wise. By 2026, he will definitely be more of a veteran, instead of squarely in his prime still. But I still would expect him to be a top 2-3 player on the team by talent, whether playing corner OF or DH. And his reputation in the game at that point will be just as massive as it is today, if not more so. He should use his pull and his experience with this WBC to get more and more big names to buy in. As is, Bryce Harper wanted to participate this year so I think he'd commit next time pending health and form.
@wilkesmcdermid7906
@wilkesmcdermid7906 Жыл бұрын
@@wwpjd28 I think Harper will be done by then. Not saying he will suck but his body is breaking down and due to injuries I think he is already past his prime. Not saying he is done as a player but as a guy who is considered an all-star. I know he is 30 but injuries has slowed him down and his injuries are knee injuries and he can barely play OF these days due to the pain he is in. Sadly Harper might be forced to retire before 35. Im not sure about Trout hitting 50 homers since he never had a 50HR season before but he is a top 5 batter in MLB and 2026 he still be likely a top 15 and atleast a top 25.

Yeah the problem with this tournament wasn’t that the best pitchers didn’t want to play. It was that their teams didn’t want to release them or they couldn’t get insurance to cover them. Hopefully that’s not the case in 2026. Gotta start that year off with a tournament win to set the stage for the US at the World Cup later that summer

I really wanted him to speak some about the Altuve situation and not being able to yank Bard when he obviously was a danger to the batters? Then ask why he didn’t replace him after the Altuve HBP? Not being critical of DRo as I know his hands were tied with the pitching usage by parent clubs. Did he contact Altuve? I’m sure he did but would have been interesting to hear his comments on that.

no shame is losing. Japan won just about all of those bang bang hustle plays literally against our best webgem effort by 1 inch, that's how close it was. i was impressed with the officiating as well. where i have a problem is how meh our fans were in our own dang country. you'd think we'd go bezerk after the Schwarber homer, but no it took a pretty significant effort to get more half hearted Let's go USA stuff. look at how the Latino and other countries fans showed up, it was an epic event and live and die on every pitch. That is what baseball is missing, that is why we think it's boring. It's not the dang pitch clock, it's the energy. we're doing baseball wrong. celebrate , bat flip, glare - they got it figured out.

Should've bunted when McNeil drew a walk in the 9th - there would've been only 1 out with a guy in scoring position. Or had Whit try to steal 2nd and bunt towards 1st to get him to 3rd. Would've allowed you to win on a sac fly or fielder's choice if it came to that.

@@taka0359 American players literally have jet lag every single day because they have to travel by plane across a country that is twenty-six times bigger than Japan. Jet-lag is not an excuse. The mound and dirt are different in every stadium. Players know this, too. The things you described do not significantly affect performance, while others, such as jet-lag, are not exclusive to Japanese players at all. Here are the facts: Most of USA's starting pitchers were either washed-up nobodies or just simply bad, with the exception of Lance Lynn. Even some of the relievers, such as Daniel Bard, (infamous for having almost ZERO control, which he used to grievously injure Jose Altuve) were players that were out of MLB for years. Some, such as Meryll Kelly, were so bad that they were forced to leave the USA and play in Korea, only to make a comeback later. Japan did not face a single pitcher with an ERA below 4.00. USA did not face a single pitcher with an ERA above 3.00 except for Hiroya Miyagi. There was not one top 20 pitcher on team USA during the entire tournament. You could argue there was not a single Japanese pitcher that was not top 20 in NPB during the tournament. Jet-lag and different dirt are not excuses. Not having good players on your team is a pretty good one. You wouldn't send a child to fight Godzilla, nor would you send Kyle Freeland to face the monster team Japan. That just doesn't make any sense. The fact that USA did not have sustainable pitching was evident throughout the entire tournament from start to finish: the "best" team in baseball should not give up eleven runs to what is essentially a minor-league team, but this is completely possible when your pitching staff is composed of washed up 35 year-olds and pitchers brought up from the minor-leagues. USA had the best offensive lineup. This is not a debate. It was better than Japan. But everyone knows that better pitching always, always beats good hitting. The best player in the world was successful in thirty-percent of his at-bats. The best pitchers are successful almost every time... This defeat is a scandal in the USA. Next time, you will likely see Corbin Burnes, Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, Zach Wheeler, Shane Bieber, Aaron Nola... perhaps you will see the monster Jacob DeGrom. Next time you will actually face the best pitchers in the USA. Americans are furious that we did not send our best.
