I hate pampered chef bc I have an awful story about a “friend” trying to get me to join but I bought a slicer from her that I love ❤️. I remember when I did a shout out about the slicer on FB 10 years or more ago for her & instead of being grateful she commented “if you love it so much why haven’t you bought more, it’s almost Christmas.” I was hurt & kinda embarrassed bc we were a single income home with 2 children @ the time & she knew I was getting my undergrad degree (I’m a therapist now). Our friendship didn’t last much longer after that.

What we need to do is teach critical thinking in schools. It's not just scams. SOMETHING LIKE 40 PERCENT OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THINK OR SUSPECT THAT THE CURRENT PRESIDENT STOLE THE ELECTION! Let that sink in a bit. There is absolutely no evidence to back up their claim, but they believe it to the point of smashing their way into the Capitol building. No evidence either for Qanon, space lasers causing CA wildfires, "lizard people" (The guy who blew up Memphis believed in them.), vaccines as poisons instead of protection (Some people think there are microchips in them!), flat Earth, chemtrails, all kinds of total nonsense that is easier to disprove than MLM claims, but you just can't stop people from believing them. People don't know how to use critical thinking skills. That is the problem. MLM's are a symptom of this problem.

It is a massive boundary overreach and invasion of privacy to ask people to hand over contact information of people who couldn’t give their consent to their personal information being shared! How is that even legal?! By the way, your hair is simply glowing in this video! ❤️
@Martiesim
@Martiesim 2 жыл бұрын
In the EU it's not. Facebook has a function where you can give the app access to your contacts and it will automatically search for the facebook users. When that was new, tech news here in germany was full with warnings, because you the user who gives out the data without consent is liable.

I recently got diagnosed with Hashimotos and my mom, being the blabber mouth that she is, told essentially everyone she knows. This one random lady that my mom knew years ago ended up reaching out to my mom asking for my contact info because she said she had Hashimotos too and she wanted to give me advice (or so she told my mom). So, this lady calls me and starts telling me how absolutely *life changing* her Isagenix MLM crap was for her symptoms and tried to convince me to buy it. I find this SO GROSS. Here I was feeling vulnerable and not great about myself, and she 100% took advantage of the diagnosis to try to convince me that her weird teas would "cure" my symptoms. I said no thanks. She texted me at least once a week for like 3 months! Ugh, I feel like this is one of the most unethical tactics that the huns use.

Re: The mother who was a prosecuting attorney: Y’know, if the timeshare guy truly believed he was running a legitimate business-as many MLM huns ostensibly do-he wouldn’t have had any cause to fear legal action. It’s very telling that he believed he’d be in trouble. Also, to the same submitter: Your English is EXCELLENT; certainly nothing to worry about there, and YES YES YES OMG PLEASE DO PSYCHIC SCAMS

Watching this video reminded me that I used to get “job offer” letters from Vector starting when I was a junior in high school. They used to say things like they’ve noticed how well I’m doing in school and wanted to promise me a job…. How freaking predatory (and creepy) for these people to get names and addresses of minors, then try to pull them in for this bs training and promising $14/hour. GROSS. I never went but it certainly was tempting. Thanks for all that you do Hannah! It’s so important to shed light on the mlm practices and rescue people from becoming victims of these scams.

My whole life I've been around MLMs. Even when I wasn't in one, I'd always be there to support my friends, even if I was the only person at the party. Only within the last couple years is when I started to really see what is going on. I've stopped responding to friends when they try to sell something yet again. I've wasted enough money and I'm just done being part of it. I'll still support them in their other endeavors, but completely ignore any messages regarding MLMs.

Dude same! I would get letters in the mail, people would come to our school for career day, and when my friends got sucked into it I would get constant texts/emails asking me to join so finally I did. I went to the orientation & they said they’d give us $17 per presentation you do & commission off the knives… I never went farther than the orientation because I was super shy & had severe anxiety in high school & im glad I didn’t go any further with it!!! Glad (or not glad, I should say) to see my area wasn’t the only ones that went through this!!

I've been part of Mary Kay, Jamberry Nails, Plexus and Juice Plus. Only the first two are where I really tried to grow and build a team. I think Mary Kay got me the worst because I had just lost my 2 week old daughter and surprise surprise, I was vulnerable. They didn't know that though. A friend and I were invited to a "facial" party (turned out to be Mary Kay) and that's how we were sucked in. I worked my tail off for months. I was on my first month qualification for a "free car" and within that month, something clicked. I didn't like who I had become, something felt off and I just called corporate, returned my unused product and left. Never talked to my upline again. I will say, however, they never treated me horribly or anything like that. So I do appreciate that at least. It was weird. Nothing bad really happened, I just kinda woke up 🤷🏻‍♀️

One time in college I also got invited to a Mary Kay party that a friend "won" from someone else. I knew what it was but I still went anyway just because it was a free thing to do and I don't have problems saying no to that sort of thing. At the end when the lady passed out those papers asking us to write down contact info for more people she could bother, I gave her the names and email addresses of everyone in a group of girls who had been bullying me at the time. 😉

I have been a prosecutor for almost 10 years, specializing in domestic violence cases and internet crimes against children. It's true in most states that you cannot have a second job while working as a prosecutor unless you have prior permission from your HR department/supervisors. More importantly, though, is the fact that attorneys (and all prosecutors are attorneys) have an ethics code by which we have to abide, usually called the Rules of Professional Conduct. They apply to us whether the behavior we commit is within our practice or not, because when people know we are lawyers, they ostensibly hold us to higher expectations. I can see how an MLM pitch/business might run afoul of some of these ethical rules and land an attorney in a lot of trouble. We have to pay bar dues annually, go through hours of continuing legal education courses, and that doesn't include the time and money we spent in law school and taking the bar. A bar license is a precious and expensive commodity - a measly paycheck from an MLM is not worth my bar licenses (as I'm licensed in 2 states).

They are everywhere. Our local pet boutique that I loved going to, starting selling Young Living and I was naive at the time and friend with the owner and I joined because I felt like it'd be worth it. BIGGEST SCAM EVER! I'm still friends with her but she sells the essential oils and such in her pet business and everything. It's crazy because it's highly recommended by the staff when it's not really ideal or good to be used around pets. Young Living even makes pet treats and they sell those along with their own homemade treats.

I know this is an older video but I just found your channel and I’m hooked!! My sister sold Cutco a long time ago and my mom had purchased a set for me one Christmas. Years later, I found myself sitting across from a Cutco rep, receiving the pitch. One part of her spiel involved asking me to go get my “regular” kitchen knives, presumably so she could show me how bad my knives were compared to Cutco knives. Guess what I grabbed? My Cutco knives. She pretended to be excited that I already owned a set of these fantastic knives and quickly started packing up her gear. Mission accomplished. Thank you for your content!

PITY BUYING! That's EXACTLY what sales to loved ones entail! I joined an MLM six or seven years ago (when I wasn't aware of what an MLM was, or if there was an anti-MLM community back then. A Google search elicited only ONE warning link, and that wasn't enough to sway me). I never tried to recruit anyone or post on my social media about it. But I did send the link to several friends and family. A few proceeded to purchase items; not because they needed them, but to, well, make pity purchases. Thankfully, I only lasted about two months with it, then just stopped buying crap (I only sent the link to friends and family once and left it at that. The second month, I got two orders, and I was surprised AND felt so guilty!) Fast forward to 2019. I purchased several Arbonne items to support a friend. Then considered getting Pampered Chef stuff for the same reason. Then I really got into anti-MLM content on KZfaq, and here we are. Not buying any of that crap ever again. AND OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS! That poor woman's dad!!!! My heart!!!! :( :( :( :( :(

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you're pressured to write down some e-mail or phone numbers, you can always make up some (with phones, you can write incorrect amount of numbers), even if your made up contact ends up to be a lucky guess and it exists, the odds are very high for it to be an inactive one. If you want to be extra careful, make up e-mails containing the word , "throwaway", "alt" or "backup", so that it turns out to be a real e-mail, it's much more likely to be an alt account.

In 2020 I was in a Facebook group that was mainly directed at our state governor for shutting so many businesses down. Most members of this group were small business owners like myself, anxious about how our businesses would survive lockdown. At least once a day, sometimes more, an MLM sales person would try to recruit people in that group. Of course nobody fell for it, and most of us would make fun of them. I think everyone who owns a legitimate business has some understanding of how MLMs work

When you’re talking about people not consenting to be putting on a contact list, and how forcing people to put names of others down, it reminds me of when people got Blacklisted….or even the Salem witch trials where they’d add peoples names to the lists to save themselves.

Just discovering your videos. Love them. You're right, they are everywhere! Growing up nearly everyone i knew sold Avon and it's been so integrated into our lives. I admit i'm usually the first one to ask around friends and family to see if they're selling Avon especially near christmas as i could get a bit at a time put it away and generally get something for everyone and i especially love the sales brochure. My sister did Partylite and i actually enjoyed going to the parties with her and play the games happily bring home my prizes and hosted parties. I genuinely did enjoy all of that stuff. She then went onto sell scentsy, nuskin, herbalife. I was introduced to some other mad one that had alot of aloe vera products (toothpastes, lotions and other potions for all sorts of things). She was always the person that sold something and i would usually be the first person to ask what she had and made orders. I did enjoy it all. Anyway, there have always been these things and even my neighbour does scentsy she also did darcys melts and a couple other ones. But when you've been around them forever and they just become the normal for us we just become dependent on them i think that's my problem with them. They suck me in and up until recently when i stumbled upon anti mlm content (funnily enough i was watching product hauls etc i got recommendations from them) but now....WOW! Eyes are opened! Especially with my sister alone i remember her talking about team meetings and trying to get people to join and i didn't think anything of it. It was just a normal thing. But wow. No wonder she always seemed to be selling a different one all the time. She probably wasn't recruiting enough or making enough money and in her stride of it being normal shrugged that off. If i knew then what i know now. I could have supported and steered her and other people away from it all. I can't go back in time but I do something about it now. I'll share your videos and help raise awareness hopefully it helps people that way. I'm sickened by it all now and for me that's been probably every mlm huns dream customer lol cos i spent sooooo much money on their stuff! But it's a worthwhile bad habit to break from and help others like me with too. Thank you for your videos and keep up the good fight. Anti MLM all the way. (feel free to use this if you want to i get i wrote a bestselling autobiography with my story but it shows anyone can get sucked in) x

On that last story, there was a company that did timeshares, which would give their guests alcoholic drinks, and after they had a few, they then did their pitch. I know in another video you read a story where they did that but for an mlm, and in the case I'm talking about, they did it precisely to lower everyone's guard.

Herbalife can be as a weigh gain- when you add 2-3 shakes a day on top of everything that you're already eating. I got some in thailand in 2010 and gained a lot of weight (cause they told me to drink this twice a day, forgetting the part about "instead of meals" )

i've bought from an MLM before (Scentsy) because it was my moms co-worker, and she never once tried to recruit us. my mom was talking about wax melts, and she let her know she sells them and gave us a friend discount. they smell nice so i'm not personally mad, it just makes me sad knowing how they work.

Vector swarmed my town when I was a teenager, literally everyone in my high school was getting recruitment letters from them. I went to one of their hiring events when I was maybe 16 because my parents wanted me to get a job, and I remember feeling really weird about the whole thing. I was like there's no fucking way I'm going to random people's homes to sell them knives lol Its insane how they target kids.

I'm also from western Europe and when I used to work at McDonald's in 2018 and 2019 I had a colleague who sold Herbalife. She started talking about it to me during work and an elderly colleague overheard it and shut her down. She wasn't allowed to talk about it at work, thank god because there were a lot of poor college students who could've been victim to it. The lady was so nice and just wanted to make a good life for her kids. And back around 2004/5 ish my mom had a fase where we had 2 parties. One from really expensive clothes and one from tupperware. Luckily my mom didn't join as is a very trusting and bit naif person who believes everyone 😅

i still have cognitive dissonance with pampered chef bc my mom has given me a lot of her old stuff when she gets new product from them (she isn't a rep, but used to be, still buys from them). theyre stuff is good 😭 but i know it's an mlm i have to say to myself "no! this is bad! don't encourage it!"

I kind of liked Pampered Chef too. We loved their pizza cutters, and I really liked the measuring cup that kind of looked like a push pop. I also liked the Close to my Heart stamping company. My rep did this thing called the 10/10 club. There were 10 of us and we all bought at least $10 of stamping supplies. That was enough to qualify for the free stuff hostess gift, which a different one of us got that month.

I was hired by Vector. They hired me on the spot in 2009 to sell knives. I was 18 and looking for a summer job before college. I lived with my grandparents and my grandma forbid me to take the job. I was so upset with her. I needed money for college and $14 base pay seemed like good money. She was worried about my safety doing sales inside strangers’ home. So I had to call them the next day and turn down the job. I was so upset. The woman who hired me told me I had a great personality and would do well. For someone who had low self esteem and no close friends in high school, I felt so good. Someone finally saw me. I’m glad I didn’t take the job now. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I ended up working at a restaurant through college. That has its own horror stories but at least it wasn’t and mlm lol

I’m a registered dietitian in private practice. In 2017/18 I was roped into going to some networking events. I had no idea what to expect. The first few I went to were fun. However, I started meeting MLM “nutrition” huns. Let’s just say when it was my turn to share what I do, the huns were less than kind, or professional. I didn’t last long in those circles.

Hi! My name is Hannah, too, funny. So, my great aunt got her side of the family roped into Mannatech when I was 18. My mom immediately knew it was a scam and didn't let me join, and helped my great grandma stop spending money for my aunt. Luckily the whole thing died down after about six months, but just saying it was weird. Not anything crazy happened, luckily. I think that MLM is shut down now too. Oh, my God, it's still running. Just looked it up. Yeah, have fun when it crashes and burns.

I'm in the UK now where I think there's less? Or maybe because of the circles I run in I've just been lucky. But I seem to remember when I got my undergrad degrees I was invited to several job "interviews" that looked and felt SUPER sketchy. In a few cases I just peaced the hell out because I didn't feel safe but I think in one or two cases I did get to the stage where they were asking for my credit card info. I was utterly broke at the time so I called my mom for a reality check and she would always say something to the effect of "a job pays you, not the other way around," or " outside of volunteerism, if they want your time for anything including training, they have to pay for it." Sorrynotsorry but if I were starting my own business and did actually have out of pocket costs then I wouldn't need an upline.

So sad, my best friend in college roped me into NuSkin for $300 30 years ago. Another close friend tried so hard to get me into Amway but I completely refused. He told me in 1992 that now Amway was on the internet so I looked on the internet which told me it is a huge scam

It's so funny because I was talking with my sister and we realized that over the span of our life, we could count at LEAST 12 MLM's. That she was involved with, Some were just using the intro consultant packages to get a bunch of cheap product for herself with no intention to sell, but I know some of them were meant to be a side hustle for her. She just got me some cute jewelry for my birthday, and as I was looking into the companies She bought it from, they were both MLMs go figure.. Kind of sad to see her support all these predatory companies when i know she thinks shes getting good products and supporting her friends

I went to the vector interview when I was a new mom, so as soon as they said it was commission based I left. I also went to a jewellery party some random person convinced me to go too, but again a young mom with literally no money, it was much easier to say no to these scams when you literally can’t even buy the cheapest thing they have lol

Thinking back....I was suckered into a lot of these weird MLMs -- they always act like legitimate job postings for Primarica, AIG, Kirby, and others. My worst was one where i was invited in for an "interview" where we were then taken out WITHOUT our vehicles to go door to door for HOURS for FREE!!

I put my name in a raffle to win a spa package, it said $400 gift basket, and I never win those things anyway, so I didn't expect much. I got a call within a week saying I'd won (thinking back I assume every name in that raffle had "won"). She didn't reveal she was from MK until I asked how I'd be getting the gift basket and she claimed it would be given to me at my house, but I had to host at least 10 friends. Oh btw this is MK! I immediately felt guilty, did a deep dive and tried to cancel but I wasn't very assertive back then and she was pushy. "Don't you want the gift basket worth of $400 in spa items?!" I ended up just having my mom along for it. My mom asked about my gift basket after we gave ourselves a stupid facial of rubbing unknown lotion on our faces (I could've done that alone, with a better product as part of my nightly routine. In no way did I consider that a "facial"). She reveals it was "up to $400" (it never said that on the raffle), based on what the friends purchased and since no one was there the most I could get was $40 off a purchase if the other person purchased. My mom decided she didn't want to purchase because she was upset with how the lady "swindled" me, using that exact wording. The rep gave me $10 off "complimentary", I bought a primer, brush and foundation kit because she matched my color which I had never quite figured out and decided I could take that color to match it in other non MK products in the future. When she left, I recalled being mortified to see the pink Cadillac in the driveway. My parents lived in a subdivision of nosey people and the thought that all of them knew we fell for a scam was embarrassing to me. While she was over, she tried to recruit me from my well paying job and my mom interjected and put her in her place, saying I'm not a very confident salesperson but do very well at my job (I was shy back then, thankful she stepped in). I think she had mentioned there's no way I make much money at my job, and it was a small business in a high paying niche, so I was at $72K, and she claimed I could do so much better at MK in fewer hours. 😡 I wouldn't have done it, but I was polite and also would've become uncomfortable with her constant pushing, so I was glad my mom stepped in and said what I didn't have the guts to say. She tried to get me to host MK "facials" at my job, and I declined, mortified of the embarrassment that would bring me from coworkers.. the thought of it!! She went silent for a period of time, but then started spamming me weekly over the next 5 years, despite me asking her to stop, remove me, etc. I never bought from her again. I was blocking her every 90 days on my phone (carrier only did temp blocks) I would remember to re-block after getting the latest spam texts from her. Finally I went off on her in 2020 when she contacted me during one of the blocking lapses. It was around the time of the big virus and she tried to make a sale off of the misfortune of others. The text claimed their skin products help stop germs while moisturizing or some crap like that. She tried to recruit me claiming everyone is out of work, I must be also. Come join and make an impact in these "trying times" (her actual words, the ones that triggered me to respond in the way I did). She mentioned her husband's healthcare workers swore by the efficiency of the MK skincare line to alleviate germ issues and it was the only product they used with the shortage (😂 oh sure). Note: at the "facial", she had mentioned he was a head nurse, so I knew she hadn't made this up, but also knew there's no way a hospital authorized the use of MK antibacterial lotion over medical grade proven soap - also some products in lotions can break down the materials in the gloves, so that's definitely a no-no in health care! (I wonder if her husband knew she was making these wild claims?!) None of her initial text made sense: if people are struggling and out of work, why would they book special things they don't NEED?! Why would they host a random stranger in their home, or host a party with multiple people from multiple households when everyone was worried about quarantine periods?! I gave her a full piece of my mind, I had grown into a very assertive person in the 5 years following her scam. I can't recall exactly what I told her, I had taken a screenshot, but I don't know where that is. My response definitely started with, "How dare you...." And included "shilling overpriced crap at a time when people are suffering and losing loved ones". I told her to stop making false claims about medical professionals swearing by her products, that such a claim could be harmful to some people. I used even stronger LANGUAGE to urge her to forget my number for good this time. (She did.)
