Both trains now no longer with us 😢 RIP MLR and Class 317 If you want to experience a similar sound to the MLR in the UK you can try the Class 319/321/507/508 instead, these are also retiring soon

@@B8L_60X . It's funny you say that. I used to ride the A stock trains on the London underground, Metropolitan line. It was always a pleasure.... until they were replaced by the horrid S8 stock. Now the sights, sounds & character have all gone 😧

If you like the MLR and Class 317, there is another class of train that is remarkably similar. The Comeng EMU in Melbourne, Australia has exactly the same Westinghouse Westcode braking system as the MLR and relatively similar GEC traction motor, albeit with camshaft power control rather than the more efficient GTO thyristor control found on the MLRs and 317s. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6mfZJunuq2UoGw.html

Some COMENG unit are using the GEC Chopper control.But it seems all scrapped only camshaft control remain. COMENG also involve of Hong Kong LightRail Phase 1 car.
