Football is a game of opinions, you'll never convince some people. Some argies still think maradona is the goat. Messi probably is the goat but I prefer others. It doesn't change the facts but if you want someone to model your game on you simply can't choose Messi because it's impossible to replicate.

Messi is a miracle if you ask me. To be so consistently supernatural on the pitch is just a miracle. Most players will have maaybe one or two games the way he did in this one. He makes it routine. I do think it reaaaaly helps that him and Suarez can read each other's minds. Helps a lot. But still just amazing.

There was Messi in an Argentina against the US under-17 match. I was watching to see the US players and hadn't heard of Messi before. I've never seen anyone dominate a soccer match like that before or since. I knew right then we weren't winning a world cup for the next twenty years with this guy around. He had 4 penalties & 3 other goals (1 tap in). Not very impressive. Angel Di Maria & Emiliano Martinez were way more influential for Argentina's success in the WC. I wasn't expecting them to reach that far though. But in the last 2 and a half seasons with Barcelona (not decisive, losing many balls, walking on the pitch, missing chances) he was playing very bad, he did nothing even before that when Barca was getting thrashed in the UCL. He still managed to get excellent stats in his last seasons though, which is telling that even very bad Messi can dominate the spanish league. Suarez is my favorite El Pistolero.

For context the only time I've seen someone do that irl was the best player on my amateur team when we won 12-0 vs the worst team we ever met! They were so comically bad that I got my only career hattrick against them, despite playing defense. Also, at one point one of their defenders thought he'd heard the whistle and picked the ball up in the penalty area, and the ref felt so sorry for them that he didn't award a penalty... 😄
