This video was live streamed using the SlingStudio wireless broadcasting system. The primary front facing camera is a Fuji X-T20 (using HDMI directly into the hub), with the iPhone 8+ as the overhead camera, and the iPhone 7 as side facing camera (both smartphones using SlingStudio Capture app), and using the iPad Pro (2018) for switching using the SlingStudio Console app. The audio is coming from the Blue Yeti microphone connected via USB to the iMac (for power only) and then its headphone line-out goes directly into the SlingStudio hub.

I like the way you ensure to tell people that perfection isn't needed. You make drawing fun for unexperienced people like myself and that's rare.

Hi Michael! Not sure if you are still monitoring these boards, but there was something I wanted to share with you about the impact your videos have had on me. In my younger adulthood I toyed around with drawing, wasn't too bad, but being self taught my work was coming along but still naive in style. Then tragedy struck our family and the father of my 5 kids (aged between 5 and 15 at the time) was killed in a car accident. It was a very traumatic time! When the children were in bed at night, I picked up my pencils and began a tribute drawing for his parents. I chose an Eagle's head in profile, coming out of the clouds (Fly like an eagle was his fav song), and under the clouds I did a banner with his name, date of birth and death and gave it to his folks. They loved it! I put my pencils away after that and for the life of me I had no inclination to ever draw again, my soul was broken. Fast forward to a few months back (22 years later) and the urge to draw again came back! But, even though I had purchased the pencils/books etc I still couldn't begin. I had the thought to search on YT for drawing classes to give me inspiration again and lo and behold I stumbled across your series of 40 vids beginner classes! Having nothing to lose I thought I would just watch the first one and see what I thought. I had barely got into the very first vid when I went and got my pencils out! The way that you teach the basic skills is fantastic! I am so very grateful for the effort you have gone to creating this series. I am now on lesson #6 (starting it tonight) but just wanted to share my little story with you to say thank you for showing my soul the light again! Many thanks!

Hi i’m not sure if you will read this since you uploaded this 3 years ago but i am starting university right now in a city far from my hometown and your classes help me so much to deal with the anxiety of not knowing anyone here. Seriously thank you so much, i always loved art in all forms but drawing used to frustrate me so much and your classes have improved my technique so much already. :)

Class Six and we are Rocking and Rolling in the world of drawing. This is so much fun! The learning curve isn't as steep as I thought it may be, though I think it has to do much with the instruction and the enthusiasm generated in the class. I really enjoy the extra tidbits too, your humor cracks me up. Like the thought that If it's an ASTEROID, well I will be the last to know. I enjoy that you keep us on our toes and allow us to really have the experience of expanding our talent. It's pretty remarkable to watch these videos, then have the opportunity to create along with you. Sometimes it honestly feels like MAGICK and isn't that a fun thing to know you have the power to do anywhere anytime, with just a pencil and paper. I am so appreciative of this course. I made a plan to learn to draw and paint in 2022, it's nice to be on TRACK and creating all along the way. I am so happy that I found your channel. Now to get more VIEWS and more Feedback. Haha! You are hilarious and awesome! I often find myself laughing along to my own drawings (even when I’m not on camera!) because sometimes I surprise myself, and honestly I love surprising myself! Maybe as beginner one wants more certainty than surprises, but I think if one can step back a little, even when a drawing doesn’t turn out the way one wants, it doesn’t mean that it’s “bad,” it’s just different.

Great lessons. I need to work on perspective so much. I couldn't follow along easily like other lessons. My perspective drawings looked awful! 😂 I'll have to rewatch this one quite a few times before moving on.

hey mark I'm not sure if your still responding/reviewing comments from these old tutorial videos you posted some time ago... but if you are. THANK YOU. my entire life I have loved the idea of art but never pursued it at all. I've always been horrible at drawing and i mean horrible couldn't draw anything but a stick man figure lol (even that wasn't good) you get the point. Anyways fast-forward to my adult hood I'm now 23 and finally decided to pick up a pencil and just try and honestly ive fallen in love with it within this past week. I draw at work after work even sometimes before work. my girlfriend is a tattoo artist and i myself am now attempting the process of becoming one (with more practice off course lol) i just love the idea of creating something for others and being able to express myself through art. I'm rambling now but conclusively your videos and channel have literally changed me and I'm so grateful for you. last couple things. 1 I'm from Vancouver as well and that's made this Experience even cooler knowing you are aswell. 2 I haven't watched any recent videos because I'm grinding out your 40 pt course but hopefully your little baby doesn't cry as much (for your sake lol)

You are so personable and encouraging that it makes one want to keep coming back! I also love how this is long form and not in the form of snippets made to make it to the top of the KZfaq stack! Given that, I just keep wishing that you would explain the why of the details- why a vanishing point is placed somewhere, how it changes based on where the viewer is looking and so on and so forth! Nevertheless, thank you for all the lessons!

Hey thanks a bunch! Most of the time I'm using "Caran d'Ache Supracolor II Soft" colouring pencils. They are super high quality and expensive (approximately $3 to $5 per pencil). But for our purposes here, cheap coloured pencils from the dollar store (usually 12 pencils for $1) will work and most people won't notice much of a difference. The main difference is that cheap coloured pencils contain a lot of wax and this can make it harder to layer colours. On the plus side, they are harder less likely to break while you draw.

I think the vanishing point is my eyes! Haha. Anyways, I was writing my master's thesis last month so I couldn't keep up with the classes, but I practiced shading and perspective drawings. I received a failed score after two days of submitting the thesis... again. feeling a little blue tbh... so here I am now continuing to learn what I like the most :) hopefully next time I get a pass and draw a painting of me graduating happily.

Oh man.... the first few lessons were soooooo easy but then from the shading and perspective lessons it got soo hard all of a sudden.. i had to pause and rewind the vid so many times just to follow along with the drawings.. might have to build it up a bit more gradual or slow down the drawing speed a bit..

Thanks for another video lesson. Maybe you have some advice for a shaky hands? My lines always wiggle while i'm drawing and lines always looks so shaky. Also i want an advice. I'm trying to learn how to draw on pentablet connected to pc, but when it comes to precises standard pencil and paper way presice then digital art, should i continue to try draw digital or should i instead learn how to draw on paper with pencils and after that use this skills in digital?

I've really been trying to figure it out for the past half hour.. the drawing on page 12 of 14 (the one on the bottom.. the one that's like a grid) right before you show us 'Three-Point Perspective'... that drawing isn't two point perspective right? it's four.. or is two point above and two point below and they're just connected? I'm really confused, would appreciate an answer. Love your videos! edit: the one on 1:18:57

Hello Michael! This class was interesting like the one before it with perspective. I was able to follow along with the warmup with ease although once you got to the van gogh and simpsons pieces i was lost completely. One issue i think i am having knowing where to place guidelines and how to visual the shapes within them. For example the bed was too long in the van gogh piece while the couch did not appear to be within the depth of the room for the simpsons piece. Do you have more step-by-step videos on perspective on your channel or could you recommend books that go over the topic? Thanks!

Hi Amritraj! Perspective is a HUGE area of study within art, and one can spend thousands of hours learning about it (as I have) and still feel a little bit lost (as I do)! I think the most important thing is understanding the basic concepts, and then trying to apply them as best as you can. There will always be elements of perspective that are confusing and frustrating, which may result in drawings that look awkward or strange. This is why so many artists today like working from photographs; it takes some of the guesswork out of trying to visualize a scene using geometry.

No, I don't have any more lessons besides the two here in this course. There are thousands of videos here on KZfaq by other artists, and endless books teaching perspective at your local library or bookstore. Remember that art is a journey, not a destination, and the day you figure it all out will probably never come! Accept that, embrace that, and don't worry about mistakes!

!IMPORTANT. You should change some time stamps to this video, I even didn't knew that there was a part about two point perspective since it was labled simpsons room, When I watched video for the first time i was frustrated by my Van Goh bed room drawing and skip the part with simpsons room. You start talkin about it at 1:11:00. And start talkin about 3 point perspective and others at 1:21:50.
