Moab Rim Trail run in a Jeep Wrangler with Help from

Have you ever run MOAB RIM Trail? I find it pretty scary because of the off camber traversing along the cliff's edge. In this video I run the trail in my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on 38" tires with two veteran off roaders in their heavily modified Toyota Tacoma trucks... ‪@DirtLifestyle‬ Nate on 38's and ‪@MarlinCrawlerMedia‬ Big Mike on 40's.
I'm really thankful to have off road friends that take the time to help spot me through the tricky stuff and make me feel as comfortable as can be.
When a long time passes between serious off road wheeling trips, what few driving skills I may seem to gain seem to really fall off.
So the best way to fix that is seat time!
The temptation is to edit these videos and show all the highlights and none of the fails but I want to encourage ALL JEEPERS to just get out on the trails and learn... no matter your skill level. The only way to get better and gain more experience is to DO IT! And to honor that, you will see my multiple failures and the crazy scared faces I make... lol
Huge thanks to Nate for shooting the exterior shots on his fancy camera and letting me have some of those great drone shots he captured! ‪@DirtLifestyle‬
Please make sure you are subscribed to the ‪@AutoEdits‬ channel and thanks so much for being here!
00:00 introduction
01:20 Nate's truck specs
01:57 my first fail of the trail
03:27 Mike's truck specs
04:13 my second fail of the trail
08:10 Z turn (works out pretty good for everyone...lol)
10:12 what feels like I'm about to roll over and I try to explain the feeling
Remember to enjoy your drive!

Thats a gnarly trail, don't let anyone talk ish about taking a bypass. I'd rather take the bypass or winch than breaking on the obstacle or flopping and holding everyone up. They should've been spotting you before you asked for help though. Some veterans need to step down and get in Jeep with just lockers and 35s to remember where they started before they talk trash. Pictures and videos don't do justice to rockcrawling. You did good man.

Honestly I have the same feelings about off camber obstacles. It’s a fear, but gosh darn if it doesn’t feel so exciting afterwards. I definitely gained a little confidence yesterday. First thing I noticed was your patties were not folding around the rock like they should. maybe take out 1 to 3 more PSI. Both those guys tires were folding more getting more grip from that alone. Also you did fine. Everyone has different experiences. Nate runs Reiter, and Elbe hills a lot out here in the PNW. those trails are technical with large step ups on rock ledges. Bumping up, and just finding traction on rocks is a skill set in its self. Great video

When I am wheeling usually the slight off camber stuff gets me too. I feel like I am going to tip but when looking at pictures or videos later it was nothing. And when I am going on something where I actually could possibly tip it feels stable in the cabin. Big rocks feel stable and small rocks make the most swaying. Its weird. Moab definitely gives you lots of off camber fun.

I actually can really relate to how you're feeling out there. Not necessarily in off-roading, because I don't get much chance to do that, but that's how I feel when I mountain bike with advanced riders. In fact, I've been out to Moab to ride twice, and I was especially nervous the first time as all the guys I went with were next level, and it was both thrilling and terrifying trying to keep up with them and trying to conquer some of the trails and obstacles out there. I did it, I had to walk a few things, but rode some stuff that I didn't know I'd be able to, and felt like a million bucks after.

@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so on that one. My control arms kept hitting and stopping all forward progress no matter the momentum. The correct technique would've been not to be square against it and take an angled approach but the cliff edge and angle kept me from trying that first thing. I'd try that now.

Hey Jason. Good videos always. I wanted to ask u about the Patagonia’s. I have a new set on my wife’s Jeep. I’ve heard that running higher air pressure (38-40 psi) is the key to longer wear. Do u agree? Just put hers on in Jan and I wanna make em last as long as possible. Thanks!!
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 2 жыл бұрын
Opposite... I run 28psi cold (they heat up to 33 on hwy) with great success. The key is to rotate them regularly for max life. The tires you see here have over 30K miles on them.

I love manuals as much as you, but when it comes to this stuff, an auto is so much more forgiving. With a manual, unless you have a crawl box, you are really limited with how slow you can crawl. And yes, I hate anything off camber. Even if I know, in my head, its well within the limits, I still don't like it.

Maybe give yourself a lot more credit - you're driving manual stick. Didn't see you stall/restart the engine once. ANy plans for transfer case upgrade?

Thanks! I haven't thought about that yet... the 4:1 Rubicon case is enough for the moment.
