I had a journalism class with a teacher who used to be a reporter for the Herald who learned only years later that Carmine put a contract on his head for his articles about the Mob before his subordinates talked him out of it.

Carmine was too drunk on power to realize there were still many contemporaries of Frank around that took respect very serious. Lilo thought that he could just run over everyone with his Zips and no one would stand up to him. It took a few years but Carmine found out that wasn't the case.*

Galante may have thought he was "the boss of all bosses" but The Bosses didn't see him that way, that's for sure..they left him "smoked" still clutching a stogie in his jowls. Meyer Lansky...one of the very few who really ever beat the "system".

Some say the stogie was put back in his mouth by police and reporters to make it a more Sensational story,. The same rumor applied to Angelo Bruno when his head was tilted back and his mouth open.... being from Philly I remember when that happened. ,and they said now think about this?,, he was shot in the back of his head and was found slumped forward on the seat?.... never found out the real truth but that was the word going around in the press and Philly back in the day.

@@patrickflaherty6586 None of that was true lol. Detective Joe Coffey was the one who actually made up the story of the stogie..he was joking and made that up after he left the crime scene. His interview is somewhere here on KZfaq. Angelo Bruno was left in that position after he was shot, people were upset because they left him like that for 2 hours and started to yell to remove him, take him away.

@@cameronjones8641 a year ago, I forgot about this. Lilo died at the end of the 70’s. Around 1983 or so was when the rat trend really started. This is before the commission trial.
