That was absolutely fascinating to see! The amount of cutting out the tunnels would have been a huge job back in those early days.

Yeah it took us a while those were the wrong coordinates I had. We left and gave up and Chris happened to spot them on from the road.

@@journeywithjay yeah I remember when I was looking and found a few set of coords online. A few were like a mile off! Thankfully you spotted it. In the spring that would be invisible!

What an awesome location. Amazing ice formations. Do be safe in these places, ice can force rock, cement and brick apart and cause it to fall. 👍🖖

I was in that area for work for 2 years, I replaced the power line just south of those tunnels. I walked through the tunnels alone on a Saturday. Hopefully you got to see the Nicholson bridge. After the bridge was built these tunnels taken out of service and the right of way sold to the state and became US11.

Hi Chris, those tunnels were awesome to see, all of the icicles in there are truly beautiful. The mound of ice underneath that ventilation shaft looked like someone had dumped a whole host of diamonds in there, very sparkly and pretty. A stunning adventure, thank you for sharing, much love. xx 🙏💖

We live a couple miles from these tunnels. I wondered how they looked after being out of service for over 100 years. These tunnels were no longer necessary due to the realignment for the Tunkhannock Viaduct. Thanks for a great video.

I miss living in pa, I worked for a company that restored historical buildings. One building I worked on was Ben Franklins house, I got to go where the public couldn’t and see and handle things they couldn’t. I live history

At 3:50 my guess is that it might have been part of a rail, but that's just a guess. In this weather, I would say the bats are all in deep hibernation. I don't think keeping your voice low will be of any effect on their sleep. I saw a date of 1908 on one of the columns you were examining, so apparently they didn't really improve any safety concerns they had, so they closed them only 8 years after that. This was a very interesting exploration, thanks. God Bless and stay safe. Oh, and by the way, you may want to start wearing hard hats while exploring tunnels, caves or mines, you never know when a rock or an icicle will drop on your head.

@3:30 Most definitely was a brake shoe. The bump in the center on the top side is where it connected to the brake rigging on the truck set. They're just held in with a metal pin, so they can be changed easily out on the road. However, they've been known to just fall off from time to time.

Next time you visit an abandoned rail tunnel look for the date nails in the ties. They will help you with finding out how old things are.

It’s truly beautiful but I must admit I get anxiety watching people go in places where rocks may fall without a hard hat (same with construction sites). The history of hard hats are actually an interesting topic on their own, the amount of construction workers who use to die before their invention is astounding. Definitely a worthy investment. Also, nice to see you leave the bats undisturbed, I’ve seen other exploring channels be mean to rats and similar, these animals live there so it’s nice when KZfaqrs respect that and leave them be 😊
