In my experience it feels so much better to be flexible and mobile with good cardio ability compared to being bulky. It feels healthier for me. Also being bodyweight strong does help too.

I used to be somewhat of a bodybuilder in my youth, was absolutely huge, when ever someone met me the first thing they would say is how big my arms were or how great i looked. I couldnt run up a set of stairs without being out of breath xD and it certainly wasnt good in the bedroom. Now I run every other day and do bodyweight workouts and I feel like superman. :D so yeah, couldn't agree more

So as an avid and aging exerciser, I agree...the fitness industry tends to go on dad's versus what is good for the needs of average Joe or Jane. What I find an issue is the lack of good quality training videos that has a combination of both on KZfaq. It may be due to fitness instructors not educated on the importance of "how to" or including in programs. You need all in a fitness program.

For someone who does body weight workouts and then sits at a computer the rest of the day, which routine would you recommend to just stretch out and keep the muscles loose? I get a lot of tightness in the hamstrings, neck, and shoulders mostly and just want to stay healthy but there are so many routines it's hard to know which to follow just to stretch out.

just switch between his different routines. And if you are sitting a lot, get up like every hour and do 5 minutes of quick stretching (activ, passiv, doesn´t really matter) for a different body part each time

I thought mobility would be the ability to move through a set range, which requires combination of flexibility and strength. So for example there are martial artist in TKD and Karate that can slowly lift there leg laterally until they are in a standing split. I want that, I'm not able to do a middle split yet but the angle my legs are able to get up to, bc of the "flexibility" of my adductors, is greater than the angle my legs go when I try a slow controlled lateral leg raise. The reason is lack of strength in my glutes to abduct leg higher, meaning by getting stronger in my glutes to catch up to the flexibility of my adductors will increase my mobility. So mobility training would be moving within the range of motion you establish with flexibility and strength training, to keep and solidify you mobility gains. Just my understanding listening to videos by Unity Gym

Hey Tom, did you ever struggle with ankle flexibility or do you feel you just genetically have good dorsiflexion? It's the only joint I haven't been able to improve my range of motion in and I'm starting to think there's a large genetic component with the ankles specifically since I know people who are fairly sedentary but have insane dorsiflexion which isn't something you see often with other muscles like the hamstrings for example. Interested in hearing your 2 cents about this! Love the vids btw, you're the best at what you do on KZfaq.

@@rushenpatel7876 I've tried the all the exercises like in Tom's ankle flexibility routine along with a lot of banded distraction stuff and sitting in a supported resting squat position. It's the only apsect of my flexibilty i've made 0 progress in for some reason. Also, you can seem to find countless photos online of before/after progress photos showing improvements in the splits, pancake, pike etc but none showing ankle mobility progress which also makes me skeptical about being able to make a significant long term dent in ankle flexilibilityimprovement. I'd love to be proved wrong though!

What would you recommend to someone who is so incredibly inflexible that even your beginner hamstring routines are very difficult? Is it a case of just doing the exercises to the best of my ability until I progress or are there ways to adapt some exercises to make them manageable (safe??) for someone who is very, very inflexible. For context, keeping my back straight I can only get about a 15-20 degree bend from being upright, with a bent back I can just about reach my shins and I can't sit with my legs straight in front without my back being quite curved.
