Got a little knee pain? Missing terminal extension? Stuck bent? Homework above and below.
First, a quick test: Butt down, leg out, see if you can raise that heel off the floor.
Then, the fix: Grab the VooDoo band and work each side, 2 min max. We’re looking for 3-5 degrees as normative.
Easy Saturday mob you can fit in during some down time.
Enjoy the weekend, leopards.

Awesome video. Great that you showed how you would approach addressing it as a practitioner, but also how an athlete or something willing to try themselves can do it for themselves as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Perfect timing, Kelly! Left knee MRI last week. Definitely issues with back of knee capsule leaking fluid. Now awaiting doctor prognosis. These rehab tips are priceless! 😎

Thanks for this pointer. I have been blighted with retro patellar discomfort the last couple years and no amount of ultrasound will fix it. My problem seems to be with the femoral attachment. I haven't been able to run for two years.

Oh my goodness. I just messed up my knee doing a very LIGHT single leg curl. The knee is already messed up in need of replacement and unstable due to cartilage wear and meniscus removal. It has been stuck bent for years and now boom, super bent like a tendon out of place. I hope rest ice Tylenol and this technique will help!

Full knee extension occurs with femoral IR and tibial ER, not the other way around. So I’m a bit confused...
@AIMJaCoBy

you're right, that's why i jumped to the comment section. The rotation of the knee in full extension is ER

What he’s trying to do is delay that “locking” of the knee that the external rotation achieves. You can lose terminal knee extension if your tibia prematurely rotates externally, locking it in a slightly flexed alignment. If you can work internal rotation near end range, you can delay the “locking” effect that occurs, and get the knee to extend more (before it then rotates externally, normally and locks).

@@nothersheep not quite sure it works that way. The screw Holme mechanism is caused by bony anatomy and articular surface area.

I agree. I'm pretty sure I caused some cartilage damage and progression of osteoarthritis using this technique a few years back.

What would you do for someone who has chronic hyperextension due to a traumatic hyperextension injury?

Hey my name is James 41yo I had an ACl surgery back in 1999 after tearing it in a high school basketball game and it total ruined my NFL prospects(was 6’4”,250,love to train, fast as hell, and aggressive). After surgery i never gained full extension let alone terminal knee extension. I knew that was a problem but I was in high school at the time and didn’t know what i know now. 20+ years later I’m still trying to straighten my knee with multiple home methods with little success maybe partially from my lack of consistency due to not seeing much progress. Currently I am sitting on a chair or bed and i have my leg(Achilles)propped up on a foam roller on top of some buckets as i try to fire my quad then I place the handles of a bag one above and below the knee and add 15lbs of weight in the bag to force my knee to straighten and it hurts but I do it in hopes of regaining extension. I hate my gait and hoe i lean forward when i walk, the feeling of standing straight with a bent left knee, feeling unstable like i could be pushed over, the pain, everything. Is it too late for me after these many years later? Please help ,i would appreciate any advice given. Thank you
