I still remember the first time I heard this. My friend and I heard it on the radio. Late at night. The world was asleep and we stayed awake dreaming. As we often did. Young and alive. I've since lost touch with that friend. I want to cry. We had great times, mate. I do miss him. It's been so, so long.

The first time I watched this music video, it was back in July 2006 in Brazil and I was 10. It was the first time I connected to a music video and a song, even though I didn't know English at the time. I had no idea it was NYC, but I felt their isolation and desire for communication. 10 years later, I found myself walking down 5th avenue in Manhattan listening to this song. Then the realization came to me: those feelings of loneliness and alienation never got better, they got worse, and this video was like a prophecy that I had just fulfilled.

Oh my god! I’ve been looking for this song for nearly 20 years! I saw it once years ago and then never again! All I could remember was the giant “Hello” sign at the end, and the phrase “Lordy don’t leave me”, which I had misremembered as “father don’t leave me”. I’d wondered if I’d dreamt it, but now I’ve found it again! This is so cool!

There's not another artist i can say that about. It just dawned on me, that that's a pretty good indicator that Moby is indeed my favorite recording artist. I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only one that cries while seeing this video. MTV used to play this video in 2002 if I'm not wrong and it made me feel upset and I couldn't understand why. Maybe I just felt empathy for those little creatures that are completely ignored by humans, they desperately want to communicate, create a relation with them and be noticed and the more they get ignored the sadder I feel. Even though I cried harder when Moby waved to them (a sign of hope). Not to mention the minuscule "dog", he's too lovely and the soulful voice of this singer. Whoever directed this video is a genius.

I'm no psychology teacher, but perhaps them cute little characters are more than that. Maybe they are the vulnerable, weak, lonely, whatever group or individual people we can imagine. And it hurts a rational person to see someone left out and ignored. It goes against our natural instinct.

There's a whole new generation of people who will never know about this masterpiece or Moby in general.. They really don't know what they'll be missing.. I remember lying down and listening to the 18 album and feeling all kind of emotions.. Popular music really sucks, no melody, just empty beats and random love or sadness lyrics thrown over repetitive music.

Why does this make me so emotional? The way the little alien was so excited that Moby noticed him, he went back to tell his friends, but then Moby already got up and started walking away. And in the end, seeing them make an even bigger Hello sign just broke me.

2022, remembering the dark place i was at all those years ago. Listening to this song on repeat, smoking cigarettes, looking out from a balcony in a apartment complex that will forever hold big trauma in my teens as a lost and confused girl. No parental guidance, drugs, bad criminal men, i had given up a long time ago there for any hope. I was just waiting for death. Today I'm happy, married and a many years of therapy and other people around me. I'm still scared of the world for Innocent kids, the world is so cruel. I'm thankful i got to the point I'm at. If anyone saw the darkness i was in they would be overwhelmed. I don't tell people the details. But this song brings it back. I want to tell my child and teen self that we are ok now. We are safe.

@@dogzer it appears to be a plea for companionship in a lonely and unpredictable world. The repetition of the chorus "Lord, don't leave me alone" conveys a sense of desperation and fear of being left alone. The fluctuation between being "up" and "almost level" and being "down" and "at ground level" could represent the ups and downs of life and the constant struggle to navigate them
