I don't understand Brazilian Portuguese but this recording is so special. Elis Regina and Tom Jobim are no longer with us, but their recording of this song makes them immortal. By the way, I was living in Los Angeles at the time they were recording this album (Elis and Tom) but it took me many years before I discovered it.

Tem 3 detalhes que eu amo nessa música: 1 - Ela é difícil, o intervalo nos compassos é rápido e exige que o cara manje de uma respiração boa e os dois fazem isso tão bem que soa algo bem natural (embora eu perceba que o Tom tenha se cansado no final). 2 - Eles cantam se divertindo e amo que eles cantam evitando ao máximo o "popular", as notas saem lindas, perfeitas, tudo bem entonadas e eles não as "interpretam", eles entoam da forma como elas são. Ouvi nessa madrugada e cheguei a me emocionar de tão bonito que fica. 3 - Essa música vicia horrores! Hitzão!

In my entire life, I've never watched a music video that captures the inner, deep joy you can experience as a performer. This embodies the spiritual power of music in the player and transcended into the listener. Not to mention that these lyrics could easily be considered to be one of the most beautiful life stories ever told. I think this particular version of this song is probably the best song ever recorded. I even knew it when I first heard it and didn't speak one word of Portuguese. Tom is eternal!

I like how the song slowly builds from a few elements: the first few chords on the bass and the guitar; then the piano, Elis, drums, Tom, the strings... into a crescendo that metaphorically represents rainfall itself, as it builds up from a few drops until it pours.
