+Sgt.Nuclear 2 Power of the FOX engine. What a fucking shame that Kojima Productions won't be able to use this marvellous piece of software they built. This engine is unbelievable. So flexible, well optimised (the fact that the game ran on PS3 and 360 is insane, and on PS4 and XBone it ran at 60FPS, on PS4 even at 1080p - that's quite the accomplishment for a huge open world game with lots of gameplay features and realtime lighting and wheather), and it just works. The way all the material shaders work in all the lighting conditions is amazing. Like, if something's wet because it rained, it doesn't matter if it's 12 AM or 12 PM. The lighting will work. All these model swaps show how amazing the FOX engine really is.

Everytime I see these kinds of model swaps where the lighting and material shaders don't break down because of altered scenes, I cry a little on the inside because this amazing engine will go to waste for stupid PES games and maybe a "new Metal Gear" game from Konami, and the brand new Kojima Productions studio won't be able to use it since Cuntnami owns the engine. I don't know... I think that the gaming industry needs a big overhaul in the rights department. I find it disconcerting that a passionate team of dozens, if not more than a hundred people (in some studios' cases, several hundreds of people) use their talents and skills to create something so technically amazing as the FOX engine, just for the rights to go to the publishing company behind the whole thing. I think this industry needs new rules and frameworks for the work environment. This is NOT fair and it's certainly not economical. I mean think about it. Konami now owns the freaking FOX engine which KojiPro built from the ground up. Kojima's core team left Konami, and they don't have an engine as of now. They have to build one or license one - maybe Sony will license one out to KojiPro for free for their first game (Guerillia Games' engine is amazing). The thing is: This core team at Kojima Productions is the team that really knows how to put the FOX engine to good use. They built it, damn it! Konami now hires new people (maybe, we don't know for sure) to potentially make another Metal Gear game and of course they have a different team to make their Pro Evolution Soccer games. Fact is: Kojima Productions would be the studio that could put the engine to great use, and Konami would be wise to sell the rights to it to Kojima for cheap and instead license an engine like Unreal 4. Konami now needs to instruct their new teams on how to use the engine, and they need to get accustomed to it. I know that it's not that complicated to do that if you're an experienced game dev, but from a technical point of view, the folks who built the engine (KojiPro) know the technical ins and outs of the software. They know how the thing works, and how to optimize it for different platforms. How to get the best performance and audiovisual presentation at the same time. I don't know... I just feel like it's wrong how the industry currently handles the legal situation in terms of creating games, creating tools to make games such as engines, and creating assets. There should be new rules and guidelines. Sooner or later, we will see something like that anyway because progress will demand a big change.
@davemarx78567 жыл бұрын
iWillWakeYouUp You're certainly passionate about this. It's a year later, DeathStranding is supposed to use that HorizonZeroDawn engine. I'm not a developer so I'm not sure how feasible this is... but, if I had to worry about my publisher giving me the boot after I create a development engine, I think I'd implement a lock of some kind. Make it so... if you don't do certain things, the game gets weird and frustratingly buggy. Passwords seem like an easy thing but they could be easy to get around too. Maybe (and again I don't know coding and development) when you start building a set and importing assets, you hide an error in the "blank" space? You have a big white emptiness and start placing characters, buildings and other objects... but if you didn't help make the engine, then you don't know about the four white cubes hidden in the white room. and those cubes have to be properly manipulated or deleted in the right order, otherwise they delete everything else... 😕 or something? Beyond not knowing if that makes any sense from a development standpoint, I'm not sure if it would be considered illegal. Breach of Contract? What I do know is that I agree that there's something inherently wrong with a publisher's ability to drop a development company but keep what that company developed. Could you imagine these types of dealings in other media? Harry Potter 12, but not written by J.K.R., instead It's written by a couple of interns from Wingnut Films AND J.K. is no longer allowed to write anything Potter related.
