the weakest link in this spreader is the gears. Even though it has a covering over it, it still allows fine [abrasive] rock/dust/dirt into the gears which after a season the gears pop and slip when the hopper is 3/4 full. i've probably had over 15 of these spreaders over the last 30+ years and am always having to figure out a way to make the gears work smoothly. All they would have to do to resolve this problem is use a harder material and make them permanently sealed like the other professional spreaders(lesco/spyker). Don't get me wrong, this spreader spreads excellently with the helical cone feature. The gears again are the weakest link.

I have 8 sr2000 spreaders for over 20 years we go over and rebuild each year they hold up great .may look into that new one with dual fans for next year if the price is right but may not fit on spreader rack on back of truck

@@AndersonsPro Thanks, I was able to purchase a new one. One thing though, for lubricating the gears, which grease should I use? These are nylon gears so wouldn't petroleum based grease deform them overtime? Should I then use lithium based or something else? I haven't been able to find information on this and there's no specifications on the manual. I sent an email asking for this but no reply yet. Thanks.

Give me a break! This spreader is next to impossible to find in Canada and the exorbitant price makes it unobtainable for 90% of the population. This thing is a bloody ripoff!
