Model A Ford - cleaning engine block stud holes

When you take the head off a Model A 4-cylinder engine, sometimes for the first time in decades, there will often be contamination left behind in the stud holes, such as rust, oil, or unfortunately even coolant. In this video, I'll show you one way to clean the stud holes on the Model A engine block.
To clean your stud holes, you'll need:
- 3/8" oak dowel
- Brake cleaner
- Shop towels
- Compressed air or canned air
- 7/16"-14 rethreading tap, also called a thread restorer or thread chaser
- 1/2" nylon bore brush with a chuck that fits your impact wrench
- Shop vacuum
I'll be posting additional videos on how to test your block threads and how to prepare to install a new cylinder head.

Tape cylinders & other openings to seal.

Good call, yellow Exterior Surface Painter's Tape works well for that and is available at US hardware stores. Don't leave it on longer than a week, though. :)

good night , i have a ford , year 29 i live in Campinas SP Brazil i have a problem , water passed into the engine through the inlet valve of the fourth cylinder , the gasket is not burnt , i can not know how this water passed i have already removed the valve and i didn't see any cracks, can you give me any tips

What's with the center punching around the valve seat with one being really close to the rim

That particular valve seat had come loose, which was what led me to do the teardown on this engine in the first place. I had it replaced, and the guy who did it used a punch to peen the surrounding block material into the new seat insert to help hold it in place. I've heard others say this isn't necessary, but that's the way he did it. Hasn't hurt anything so far. That entire area is inside the combustion chamber, so it doesn't affect the head gasket seal.
