A masterclass of model car photography lightning. I have 10 years in photography and have watched so many videos and tutorials on different topics regarding lightning. This is hands down one of the best I've watched, not only because the step-by-step explanation but also these techniques can be used in other types of photography as well. Hats off to you Doug.

This is great stuff. I shoot pics of diecast cars and do many of the same things. The big one for me was adding the reflector cards on the sides, makes a big difference. You can control the light and with just a few moments turn a blah pic into a great pic

Great tips Doug! One thing you should have mentioned but not needed in your shots is to be sure to dust off or blow off the car to get rid of dust. Many people take pics of their models and are covered with dust.

Wow, I just watched this during my lunch break. When I was a kid I had maybe 50 1:64 scale cars. Lost them all on a trip. Started collect and may have gotten up to 50 again. Don’t ask where they are. Im already kicking myself. At 47 I just purchased about 7 1:64 scale but after seeing your video I may have to go up in scale where the detail models are.

Thank you for the level of detail you gave in this video but yet still keeping it simple for anyone without camera passions or background to complete the task. I have been shooting as a photoG since 2012 with my DSLR at mostly motorsports and I learned a few more things today (one year later from your post :) ). Getting myself in the die cast collecting and even making custom die cast cars and some of these tricks are going to help me with photos of my collection. I have a decent setup already with my Elgato light box, but need to add some rolling background and positions for side cards for diffuse the light better. Thank you again and CHEERS!
